Dubai 10hr layover

...due to circumstances...

I have 10 hrs to kill at Dubai airport with The Lad when we head back to HK on Emirates in econocattle class. No loyalty card or anything.

I'm considering the airport hotel so we can get some kip and a shower. No wish to go seeing Dubai (seen it already) - any other recommendations - lounges we can buy access too?

I am using search engines to look for options but I thought asking the experts may be better.

Not much in the airport other than the hotel and shopping.

Not sure what else you might expect in the airport?

You can buy your way into the Maharaba lounge but its fairly basic stuff and nowhere near a 'Loyalty card only' lounge and I wouldn't want to spend more than an hour in there.

Nearest large cinema is at Festival City Mall which is a short taxi ride away - 15 minutes or so ?

Or a 25 minute ride and you can be at the Snowdome ski-slope, or at Kidzania at Dubai Mall.

With a 10 hour layover you really don't want to stay in the airport.

I'm familiar with the airport & it bores me after 2 hrs.

Might be tempted to go out into town but frankly I just want to lay up & kip.

Depending on the age of your lad those last 8 words will turn into an Arabian nightmare :} I'd recommend getting him tired out so that the DXB-HKG sector will go quickly as you'll both be

He's 15 and pretty much happy anywhere with broad band & FIFA15!

Yesterday I asked a friend what his children were up to and he said (of their 14 year old son) "He's buried in a mine... Minecraft."

We always stay at Le Meridien it is just 10 mins from the airport. A great 'village' complex of bars and restaurants. A few pools and an Irish pub where I get my twice yearly Guinness fix :ok:

Don't stay at the airside hotel. They charge by the hour and it is terribly expensive.

Thanks - good idea, I'll look into that one.

surely not 24th Jun 2015 10:41

I agree Le Meridien just near to the airport is a very good option.

Of all the bars it is probably best to give Joules Bar a miss if you have your 15 yrs old son with you.............................

Exascot 24th Jun 2015 11:07

surely not. Tell me more please about Joules Bar  Would that be where I took a wrong turning this year and had three girls all over me begging or sumat ? :E
