Airport that never loses your luggage

Kansai International Airport has been voted the best in the world for reuniting passengers with their luggage after a flight, with a remarkable zero items of baggage going missing since it opened in 1994.

Praise for the airport that never loses your luggage - Telegraph

BA 'lost' my luggage once during the 1990's, which was returned to me by driver the next day, and Qantas decided to take my suitcase to Sydney when I had stopped in Kuala Lumpur.

Baggage is rarely lost. Most issues are with delay and damage.

Saying an airport has never lost a bag is somewhat disingenuous. Airports are rarely responsible for baggage handling and they wouldn't be losing bags, would they.

What about bags checked-in at KIX that never reach their destination? Do they keep count of these? I doubt they have the foggiest idea.

This claim is dishonest.

Well said. A friend coincidentally posted this video from KLM that is dates Sep 2014. Quite apart from the briliant idea, it looks like KLM have understood modern media in a way that many carriers have not.

Has anyone seen this at Schipol?

Nice video,

But KL's reputation for connecting baggage at their hub is, frankly, not the best.

{whisper} It's Schiphol {/whisper}

The airport is located in the NE corner of the former Haarlemmermeer (a lake), and so with SW storms, a frequent occurence in the Netherlands, ships in trouble would be blown to the NE corner, to encounter further trouble by the shore. Hence "Ship(s) hell".
Edited to add: Although "hol" is not hell, it is an old Dutch word for grave.

Ah, yes I ought to have known about that 'h'. My only excuse is that it's been many years since I went through AMS and I'm now so old I can't remember what I had for breakfast. :sad:

I think that (almost) irrespective of whether KLM's record of luggage at AMS is good or bad - they have recognised the problem of seat back items that have no tags and are highly valuable and are doing something about it. Further, they are using social media to look out for problems and trying to resolve them too. Now, I am one of the first to point out that the risk of tokenism in that - BUT we see so many stories in PPRuNe and the main stream media that should never have got so badly out of hand. One of my most repeated statements in here is "A carrier must assume that someone is recording everything you do".

I've not used KLM for many years (not avoiding them - just the routes I use) but I think this does give a positive view of them.

Yah, but ...

I found it cute, but not that believable. I can see the dog delivering the lost item to the passenger's next boarding gate (after humans had figured out who had been in that seat, and where they are going next) or to baggage claim (where they would be paged) but not directly to the loser.

Schiphol is big, that poor dog would get worn out going from the G gates to the Schengen area and back again, showing it's passport each time.

Thanks for that! Got coffee all over my keyboard now :{

Incredibly innovative, but this has to just be for publicity. I can see a lot of people deliberately leaving old broken cell phones in the seat backs just so they can see/experience a cute beagle running them down and returning their item.
