Possibly silly LGW check in question
Taking the kids abroad for the first time this summer. Given that there will be 4 of them (and 3 adults) I don't really fancy standing in the check in queue for hours with them all bouncing off the walls. Does everyone travelling need to be present at check in or can I check everyone in on my own so the wife can take them off somewhere to amuse/feed/water them?
Also what is there in the way of food/drink available airside in the North terminal. Thanks Meant to put this in the SLF forum, any chance it could be moved please Mods? |
All travelling passengers must be present for check in. You could stand in line (if there is one) and they could join you when near the desk? Or can you online check in and just bag drop?

All pax do not need to be at the check in counter. My wife and kids are never there. I bring all the bags and passports and collect the boarding passes. Wife is usually getting them a drink or taking them to the toilet!
And "hours" in the check in queue? If you are waiting in line for more than 20 minutes something is wrong. |

As long as you can answer the questions.. "Did you pack the bags sir?" And "could anyone have had access to your bags?" Yes and no respectively they don't care who is present.

I've often checked in my wife's bag, in her absence, both when travelling / not travelling with her. I do need her passport and boarding card (either printed or on my phone).
Does anybody still 'check-in' at the airport? Why? (Other than not having access to the internet) If there is an issue, ask the agent to hang onto the boarding cards/passports while you call your bride to attend. The agent can deal with the next customers until your wife appears and a quick check and your done. |
Flying Thomson out of LGW last year, we checked in on-line the day before the flight and dropped our bags at check in later that day before heading for overnight accommodation. Only two of us checked the bags for the whole party, although I recall we needed to present passports and printed check-in papers for everyone travelling. We still needed to return to check-in next morning to exchange our printed check-in documents for proper boarding cards, for which we were all present.
