Bravo AA !! 'bout time this Happy Holiday crap was stopped, you can celebrate Ramadan, or Deepavali or Hanukkah or whatever your religion is based on, but Dec. 25th is the birthday of Jesus Christ, I'm Christian and will celebrate it if I want to . I don't need your permission or criticism.

Only minorities have rights at the expense of the majority! :D AA

Whoa there! There's nothing in that report to say that the grumpy old fart followed any faith at all; why mention..

It's got nothing to do with religion; for all you know, he had just lost his job and/or his wife, and had probably already suffered 148 occurrences on his way through the airport of some sparky young thing chirruping "Merry Christmas" at him because is/her employer told him/her to do just that, without any feeling or even eye contact.

I feel for this poor guy; by 1700 on 24th December I was ready to punch the next shop assistant, Muslim taxi-driver, Romanian street beggar, Big Issue seller, waitress, call centre operative, whatever, who muttered "Merry Christmas" at me without giving a gnat's fart about whether or not I was having a Merry Christmas, or was on the way to commit suicide as normal by 1700 on 24th December as I survey the commercialised, drunken hell that is Christmas bloody Eve in most European cities, to say nothing of Canada and the USA.

Scrooge had a point.

Splendid. If he can't let others (the majority, it seems) spread their seasonal good wishes, then shame on him. And no flight. Ho ho ho!

Well said Capot. I make space for any and every religious group - not so many make space for me, an atheist. At two places of work today, I was greeted by all with the conventional xmas words and I replied politely - even though I would rather have ignored it.

I wonder if this pax had been allowed to sit down and be gently ignored - would it have got so bad? Now he has a financial problem and, possibly worse.

Recently, I read a newspaper column where the correspondent had bene making an enquiry at a shop (well known UK retailer) and was rapidly accused of 'shouting' when he had only contradicted the assistant - without raising his voice. He left the shop and the retailer lost a client. But he was lucky it was not an aircraft.

Naturally, I support all the agents and attendants who have been genuinly harangued - but some are now on a 'hair trigger'. It is well known that the holiday season is one of the most stressful of the year and AA might want to remember that.

PAXboy and others, come on now guys it is Christmas after all. Not religious myself btw. So, instead of hearing Good Morning/Good Afternoon/Good Day dozen of times, you hear Merry Christmas. Is it such a big deal? Lots of people say Good Morning to me when I'm not having a good morning. Do I bite their head off for it? No! It's called tolerance.

He kicked off and got aggressive. Nobody needs "customers" like that, especially on an aircraft. The trigger is irrelevant, calm down or bu:mad::mad:er off.

No - it's not a big deal and, as I said, I respond in like manner. However, we know in these forums that what is printed in the press is NEVER the full story. I'd give the benefit of the doubt. I also understand that, if a pax is perceived to have gone beyond a line that each cabin crew can decide for themselves then pax are going to get thrown off.

We will never know what happened, what words were said, what entreaties to calm down were or were not used. We do not know if the pax was tanked on alcohol or prescription medication that had back-fired, the examples given by Capot, the list is endless. But, please let's not take a newspaper as the whole story.

If this is an accurate representation of what he said, then I agree that it doesn't necessarily have a religious angle, as presumed by ExSp33db1rd, but I also agree that it is most likely, all the PC nutters try to make us say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas, to avoid offending those who do celebrate Ramadan etc. Why should we ?

I could just as easily object to the almost constant wish to "Have a Nice Day" by just about every American shopkeeper/cashier as I give them my money, why should I if I don't want to, but I'd hardly voice my objections to the extent of getting thrown off the aircraft that I had paid good money to board.

Occasionally, as I approach a cashier/till I'm asked what sort of a day I've had so far ? I tell them. That usually shuts them up and makes them wish they'd never asked.

The crew clearly gave him an opportunity to calm himself down and continue his flight. But what did he do? Carried on! He absolutely deserved to be offloaded; you shouldn't just think of the situation on the ground, but what if he was served a mince pie during the flight which then set him off again, causing a diversion?

Last time I checked, we were guaranteed "Freedom of Religion", but that's been bastardized by many into "Freedom from Religion".:ugh::ugh:


Freedom from Religion is NOT a right (and I don't think I'd want to live somewhere where it was as that would likely be some sort of totalitarian government).


BTW, would this guy have wigged out if people had been wishing him "Happy Earth Day" instead?
