Scotland to bin APD

The Scottish government has stated it wishes the power to levy Air Passenger Duty to be devolved to Scotland to allow it to be reduced and eventually abolished. A survey conducted in 2012 estimated it cost Scotland £210 million in lost passengers from the tourist industry. The levy raises currently £200 million for the UK Treasury

Scotland to bin APD

Or, more accurately:

Scotland to seek (with no guarantee of success) the power to bin APD.

I can't see them not giving it them for at least internal flights.

It might do the London capacity issue a few favours and shift some traffic to Glasgow and Prestwick to take some load off the London hubs.

The big one would be fuel duty for cars.

no-one ever says where they'll go to replace the money from APD (and fuel tax)

The Dutch and Irish found that the (relatively) small amount raised by direct taxation was hugely outstripped by the indirect revenue gained by removing it.

I lived in Northern Ireland and the APD contributed hugely to my decision on which airport to use.

Dublin often was the winner. Any discretionary spend was to the advantage of the ROI.

Scrap it now. Oh wait....that would be encouraging aviation:ugh:

THE GREENIES AND THE TREE HUGGERS HAVENT SAID MUCH, WAs IT NOT THEM THAT WERE ALL IN FAVOUR FOR APD (AND FUEL TAX)

Heathrow Harry.

Well maybe they'll have to manage with a bit less money, as they did for all those years before they thought of APD.....
