Rome FCO trains
 

Can anyone give me a heads up on train services between FCO and the port of Civatavechia?

I have googled but not particularly detailed stuff.

I was staying in Ostia (next door to FCO) and from there, I had to take the train to Pyramide and change there for Civitavecchia. It should take an hour and a half, with finding the other train station at Pyramide and waiting for connection. But that's from Ostia, not sure about the airport itself, may have to take the same route I guess. That's all I know.

No direct trains. You have to get the Leonardo da Vinci non stop train to Termini or the other train that stops at intermediate stations to either Trastevere or Ostiense and change from there. Takes between one and a half and one and three quarter hours. Ostia is not on the same line as Fiumicino Airport.

It only recognises Italian names so for FCO put in Fiumicino Aeroporto and do it after you click the Tutti I Treni tab. Le Fecce tab is for inter city fast trains only.

Taxi's are a rip-off at FCO but hire cars can be as cheap as chips.

I'd agree with those who say just hire a car.

Yes the Italians can't drive for toffee, but if you've ever managed to drive on the M25 at busy times then you'll survive the Italian roads perfectly well.... just like the M25, it can be bad, but not as bad as people make it out to be !

Erm what ? Ever heard of one-way car hire ? :E

Having just Googled "Civatavechia car hire" it seems like all the main brands (Hertz, Europcar,Sixt etc.) have offices in Civatavechia.

So, just book pickup at FCO, drop off at Civatavechia .... and Robert is your uncle.

If you have to drive a car in Italy, the best is to be on the Autostrada because then - the crazies are all driving in the same direction as you and it removes some of the variable.

That said, the Italians can drive anywhere, in any direction, whenever it pleases them ...

That's why, for this journey, I prefer to trust the Italian train driver.....:\
