Frankfurt Transfer - Terminal 1.
Is 45 minutes enough time to make a transfer if incoming plane is on time (or even slightly early!!). It was an hour but Lufthansa changed the time of one flight by ten minutes and the other by five. Coming from Ireland heading for Florence so will have to go through passport control. I've been through there before and it's very efficient but this is cutting it to the bone. The transfer is within Terminal 1.

You could request 'passenger assistance on arrival' - if agreed to, you will be met on your arriving aircraft and escorted to your departing aircraft and probably taken to the front of any queues.

Are both flights on a single booking/ticket? Their system should maintain the MCT (Minimum Connecting Time) for a LH online connection at FRA. 45 minutes is tight but I suppose it can be done.
If you are on two separate tickets / bookings I would call LH, explain the situation and ask them to sort out their problem. If you misconnect with separate tickets the airline will take no responsibility and you will be on your own. |
Thanks
Thank you both.
It's a single ticket so I should be fine. There's a later flight from FRA to Florence which I am sure the would put me on. It happened to me years ago going through Frankfurt with LH when they had a delay from Dublin and they put me on the next flight so I can't see this being any different were it to happen. It's also giving me the option to rebook but that ironically would mean a 4-5 hour layover as opposed to 45 minutes, a bit too long!! The only issue if I miss the connection is that with the later flight I wouldn't get there till 10 p.m. as opposed to 6 p.m. so you lose the evening. Anyway, just curious. Will have to decide what to do. I'm actually going through FRA to SLZ with LH this Monday and I have a couple of hours so I might time myself and see how long it takes to get through passport control and to the usual gate the plane to FLR departs from. Thanks again. |
Win
LH actually let me rebook with Swiss through Zurich with an earlier DUB departure, a 2 hour+ connection time and arriving in FLR around the same time AND A €21 REFUND because the ticket is obviously cheaper.
I love the Germans!! Thanks again for your help. |
You should love the Swiss even more ...:D

Good point!!:ok:

MCT for any LH flight is 90 min in FRA. Just done that connecting inboud had 2 hour wait and outbound 2.5 hours wait due to MCT.
|
I'd see what time the next flight is to Florence as you'll be on it, unless your Usain Bolt :\

Swiss are an absolute pleasure to fly with and as ZRH is non EU one can actually buy duty free's, on board Swiss DF's are cheaper than in ZRH airport and if one has any Miles & More points one can buy DF's on board Swiss with them.
Have a nice trip :) |
Thanks again everyone
Thanks. I've connected through Zurich on Swiss before and they are great.
If minimum connection through FRA is 90 minutes someone needs to let LH know. They sold me a flight with an hour to connect, later reduced to forty five minutes. I know there's a later flight and as I said they did sort me out before when I was connecting and DUB/FRA was running late but still!! Thanks again for all replies. I like going through FRA but I'll use ninety minutes as a base now for connections. |
Hope you don't mind if I borrow your thread... :)
I'm doing an ABZ - FRA - SIN quite soon on a Sunday evening, single ticket with a 65 minute transfer. Sitting near the front on the first sector so should be quickly off. As this is purely transit and not going into Schengen guessing there'll be a gate security check is all? |
I have connected in FRA with less than 90 mins between arrival and departure. No problems at all.

If you have a significantly degraded connection at FRA and you're transferring LH>LH, you'll normally get transit assistance at the arriving aircraft, for both remote and gate positions
|
Next LH operated is 24 hrs later, there's an SQ 30 mins after the LH, I don't know if they codeshare.
I'm not too phased, it's sold as a single ticket so is allegedly achievable in the Airline system, arr and dep at T1 FRA. |
You are assuming that your flight will actually dock at T1. I've docked at remote stands. It then takes about 10 minutes to load on to buses, and the bus transit to T1 can take another 10-15 minutes. So you may have already used 20-25 minutes of your transit time before you even set foot in T1. Forty-five minute MCT is a joke. It may generally work, but only if you are happy with, say, a 25% or higher failure rate.

The EU compensation for delayed travel is a powerful incentive to ensure that inbound passengers on a through ticket with longhaul connections are expedited. It works - get a rapid airside trip to your departure gate.

I did it on Monday going to SZG and an hour was just about fine. We were in about ten minutes early in from Dub which gave 70 minutes which helped and I made the SZG gate in just under an hour as we had a land bridge from DUB but I was still right I reckon to rebook the flight in October to FLR. You'd need to be fit as a fiddle and have everything go just exactly perfect to make it in 45 minutes. I suspect it cannot be done.
I'm coming back on Friday and will park at a remote stand. I'd imagine the one we left from or close by. I've an hour and a half which will be fine. 65 minutes might be pushing it depending how far you have to walk once at the terminal. But if they sold you the flight then chances are they'll do everything to get you on it. |
It certainly helps if you are seated on the aisle in the first ten rows of the inbound flight so you can get off that plane quickly. But as others have said, if you get parked on the tarmac and have to bus it in, all that is for naught.
Terminal 1 FRA is huge, and even if everything else goes smoothly, the walking alone could take a lot of time, depending on the location of the gates. I recently made a successful connection in about 25 minutes at CDG, including immigration and another security screening (SFO to BUD), but would never imagine that at FRA. |
