Odd noises from u/c?
 
We have just arrived on Menorca via Monarch A321 GOZBF. We were 24A&B. When taxiing out at MAN, I noticed (as did Mrs. RF) loud clunks from beneath us - felt as well as heard. The noises seemed to be random, not relating to any imperfections on the taxiway or when braking. Possibly more noticable when turning, but not consistant.
The cabin crew must have heard it too, but seemed unconcerned. Anyway, we arrived OK. The driver planted it firmly on the numbers without any ill effects. (What wind there was was right across, and the approach was turbulent).
Any ideas, please?

Centre Line Lights
 
The real skill is running over ten centre line lights with the left nose wheel and then ten more with the right nose wheel to equalise the wear. Added bonus is the SLF's might notice a change of noise to report to the SCCM

1 noises good, when taxiing = contact with r/way ,
2 having taken off noises = u/c retracted,
3 noises when coming in to land = u/c lowering & locking
No noise = oh dear :bored:
" planted it firmly" = you have landed goto 1 :)

Good to pay attention though.

That'll be the shuttle valve between normal and alternate braking, they 'clung' every time the brakes are applied.

Is it me, or do Airbus aircraft make more unusually whining and clunking noises than Boeing?

On Airbus we have the loud drill or screw whine (something to do with the electrical system I recall) and now the clunking (which is also something I have frequently heard). Boeing on the other hand seem to be much quieter on the unusual noises front.

The 'barking dog' was well in evidence too! (That link was very useful).
If the shuttle valve is near the main gear, that may well be what we heard, or perhaps the main gear rather than the nose wheels over the lights? We were above the wing at row 24.
