Venice Marco Polo into Venice city
 

Have goggled the options of getting from the airport into Venice. Seems to be three options?

Train or bus to the terminal at the north west edge of the city next to the end of the causeway; or the water bus.

The water bus seems to get us to the part of Venice our hotel is located. so a much shorter journey on foot. Is this the most sensible option?

Any other recommendations welcome!

We took the water bus there and back. Reasonably cheap and a great way to approach La Serinissima. Do make sure that it's a water bus though and not one of those cream coloured water taxis.

Second the water bus, quick, scenic and convenient

We took the water bus too, and it is lovely, but I soooo wish it has been a taxi :(
The water bus is a great way to get around and sight-seeing too and I think there was an multi-day ticket available.

If the gondola is too expensive there is a shuttle gondola service from the market to the other side of the water which ticks the box for a few Lira (or modern equivalent).

For a special occasion we used a water taxi. Very nice but it didn't bring us any views etc that the water bus would have. We probably docked a little nearer to our hotel than the bus would have but given that the hotel was not on a navigable canal we still had a short hike. However, where I think the taxi did score was that he pointed us up the correct alleway!

the various water busses take different routes so check before boarding - the blue line for example goes via Lido which takes a while

They don't stop at all the the stops the vaporetti (in town water bus) use - you might want to change in the city to a convenient vaporetto that lands you close to your hotel as lugging bags through the streets is a nightmare

Orange "A" goes down the Grand Canal - price is 14-16 euros one way and takes around 75 mins to the end of the line in San Marco

A water taxi has real style and takes 30-40 minutes to San Marco but it's around 100 euros - so it really is a matter of how many people and how much $$$ you want to spend

Visibility out of either is reduced by spray on the cross lagoon part of the trip but is good in the city area

Have you visited Venice before?

I always tell folks that the first time they visit Venice, they *must* arrive by water. That first arrival is a major part of the experience.

The causeway is functional but not in the least attractive, neither is its city terminus.

First visit to Venice and want to do it in style. Family of five, possibly with friends going to the same hotel so a water taxi for $100 may not be so stupid.

Hotel is near to a stop on the Orange line if we use that method, so we can walk from the stop to the hotel.

Can I jump on this thread?

My Wife and I will land at 10pm and we need to get to the Hilton Molino Stucky. I have looked at the water bus and it will take 2 hours to get to the hotel.

Has anyone got any tips to help us?!?

The Hilton is a bugger as its on a seperate island from the main city

amazing views but not convenient and has only a limnited vaporetto service

The hotel offers a sh
uttle about every hour to San Marco during the day but their advice is

:_TRANSFERS BY PRIVATE WATER-TAXI (WITHOUT HOSTESS)Advance reservation is not necessary as taxis are always available at the airport dock until 10.15 PM.


Tariff is € 110/120 for up to 4 people (€ 150/160 for up to 8 people).


In case of late arrival, reservation is recommended. To confirm a booking we do require a valid credit card for advance payment.

Tariff is € 120/130 for up to 4 people (€ 160/180 for up to 8 people), which includes a night charge of € 10 from 10h00 p.m. to 7h00 a.m.


Transfer time approximately 30/35 minutes.

I'm just back from Venice and I'll add my voice to those who recommend taking the water taxi.

And take a water taxi if you're visiting Torcello: the vaporetto takes ages.
