Why do they imagine this is going to change anything? If the fess are lowered than baseline prices go up (as they should have in the first place).

The folks at Which? are well intentioned but rather last century.

With BA and LH charging £4.50 credit card charges, I wonder why they single out LCCs? Both do not show you until late on in the booking process. Just an observation!

When I go to the supermarket, I often see deals saying "Buy one get 2nd half price" or "Buy 2 get 3rd one free". Alternatively, if I buy a big box of detergent I pay less per kilo than if I buy 2 small boxes. The effect is that supermarkets give discounts for purchasing more products at a single visit.

The card charge / payment charge / admin charge / invent-your-own-name charge is simply a way of an airline giving a discount to customers who book more passengers or more flights at a single visit.

As a person who regularly has to book one way flights for just myself and pay out of my own pocket, I would like the card / admin charge to be abolished. As someone who consider the admin fees fairly transparent and accepts that companies exist to make a profit and want to boost sales, it's difficult to argue against it.

The point is that if these airlines are profiteering from credit card charges, then they are flouting the law. If true, then it should certainly not go unchallenged. :=

Which have been pretty good at investigating these practices in the past, helping to reduce the problem of excessive payment fees. True, the cost will just move to the headline figure, but this is beneficial as it makes different airlines easier to compare. Those of us who frequent pprune may well versed in comparing airlines/prices etc. Your average punter (who perhaps only takes one flight a year for the family holiday) isn't always as knowledgeable.

So on a £100 transaction thats 4.5%, a little steep. But on a £1000 transaction that's 0.45%, much less that one would expect they pay to the cc company.

So some are paying over the odds but many are paying less. Hardly fair but ...

These charges and any other administrative charge should be bundled into the fare. IMHO

... and is there any reason why the "average punter" needs to be protected from his or her own ignorance and inability to read what's on the screen? I am happy that my preferred airline now treats all debit cards equally, but long before I joined PPRuNe, I would have considered myself an "average punter" and was perfectly capable of signing up for whatever card was being processed fee-free that month.

Agree, however, on that principle, so should checked baggage then (as it used to be). :E

HT, I don't agree with that. Anything non-optional should be included in the price. Baggage is optional and I don't want to pay for everybody else's kitchen sink.

I usually travel without checked luggage.
