Air Canada LHR-St Johns
Anyone used this route?
Looks like a sharp way to the E Coast - bit of a haul for an A.319 but cuts out a change in Toronto or Montreal |
If you keep facing forward for the whole flight, you can pretend you're on an A321. :O
|
No longer than transcontinental, in fact LHR is closer to St. John's than Vancouver. Almost 1300 kms closer.
LHR-YYT 3727 km YYT-YVR 5023 km Much quicker, 5h40 vs 13h00 via Halifax, 12h18/12h53/12h58 via Toronto and 11h46 via Montreal. |
yes - that what caught my eye - a very quick trip and at quite reasonable prices - 5 hours in slave is quite doable
|
This is a seaonal route, isn't it, so probably ends for this year around the end of Oct.
Sorry if y'all already knew that! |
I have done this route. Flying time was something like 4 hours thirty minutes from St Johns. Had extra leg room seats over the exits...probably not really worth the cost. Seats further down the back were only occupied window and aisle due to the reasonably low load and yet we had 3 across for our seats.
Awful service on board - it was like half a filled roll (I kid you not) :ugh:for food and a muffin for breakfast....but yes it is a quick way to and from UK if you want to start or finish a canada trip in new foundland. |
yeah , well - you never fly Air Canada for the cabin service in my experience
but 4-30 east bound looks brilliant |
Indeed. Also if i recall correctly the aircraft is an in bound fromToronto to St Johns before the crossing. The dept area after security had no bar and the one or two shops that there is closed even before the flight left (it was around the last of the evening),

I fly this route two or three times a year in season. As has been posted, it's a nice short flight 4.5hrs E/B and a little over 5 W/B. It's an AC mainline aircraft with NA business class (no lie flat seats) but fine for such a short flight. Only downside is that it departs 11pm Nfld time and gets into LHR 6.30am UK (so 0300 Nfld) so with the best will in the world you are not getting much sleep. But for those of us travelling from YYT, it sure as hell beats flying to YHZ/YUL/YOW/YYZ first only to fly back over my house 10 hrs later.;)
It's usually the last flight out of YYT for the night - although the seasonal WJ YYT-DUB will depart after it next year - and there are few facilities at YYT as it's a small airport. But it also requires little time for check in and security compared to a larger airport which is a definate bonus. There is an AC Lounge airside but it's pretty small. It does stay open until the flight has departed. |
thread drift
There is an Irish company (I think) called Westjet who are starting DUB to St.Johns as a way of catching traffic to the Eastern Seaboard. Depending on your start and stop it could mean more than one change but an interesting addition. |

The WS service is (also) same-plane through to Toronto. From St. John's there are connecting services to many Canadian cities, some involving another connection.

PAXboy....I have been reading PPRuNe for quite afew years now...and this is the first time I can ever recall seeing you getting something wrong. Unbelievable. I almost fainted in shock!! It was a busy week and I thought, Shall I double check? Nah, there'll be someone sitting near by who'll know the answer - and there was! The ever reliable DaveReidUK. :ok: (PAXboy delves into his cabin bag for suitable halo polishing materials and to check the search engine is working) |
I too was so utterly surprised to see PAXboy get that one wrong that I thought someone was impersonating him ;)

Another compliment - or a clever way of saying that I'm a smart @rse? :ooh:
