Not necessarily, I choose Thomas Cook even if it's just a separate hotel and flight booking that they don't operate because I like security, but they themselves are issuing continued profit warnings, so not exactly an imminent issue, but a present concern.

I know and Thomson Airways passengers are constantly decreasing, but just imagine if TUI went bust, how many europeans would that effect.

I think Chitty that passengers are not ''stranded'' as you say as the company was ATOL protected. Those on holiday at the moment will completetheir holidays and those that have already paid will lose their holiday but not their money. Please get you facts right.

Does this mean the end of Onur Air in the UK? Seems like its likely to affect them quite a bit given something like 25% of their flights are to the UK at this time.

Exactly, those who are holidaying abroad will not be left stranded.

They will be able to made their way back to UK as normal.

The repatriation flights are guaranteed by the British CAA and they will be carried out by Onur Air.

However, no more outbound departures are scheduled, even those who were intended to leave this evening...they are going to found their booked holiday cancelled but they can apply for a refund, as H4U/Aegean Flights was covered by the ATOL-scheme protection.

This major failure will entail a huge loss in term of charter passengers flying from UK to Turkey this summer. Wonder if the big boys will increase their capacity or offer discounts for those left without their hols.

Sorry Northern Counties I dont really understand your post. Thomson passenger numbers might be declining but the company is trying to move upmarket and improve its profit margin. Although the British market is difficult it is still profitable. Whats more, TUI is a worldwide operation and other parts of the group are doing extremely well so the chance of the company failing is extremely low. I would say the same of Thomas Cook. Although nothing in life is certain if you want the best chance of getting the holiday you want, book with the big operators.

If you think back to early part of Summer 2010 (before the loss of Goldtrail and Kiss Flights) and the number of Turkish Operators coming into the UK, and then look at how things will pan out over the next couple of months.

I may be corrected, but is this the end of Charter flights on Turkish Carriers from all UK airports apart from Gatwick and Manchester (where I think Pegasus are still operating for Olympic Holidays) ?

Should be good for the UK carriers operating out there, but a big reduction in capacity I assume come Summer 2012 ?

General Manager of Onur Air stated today that they had gone out of their way to support the troubled company but that like many tour operators the company was reporting losses that ended up being the downfall. He stated that albeit a small part of the company, it was sad to see a company with Turkish investment close its doors.

Thomas Cook and the group may be secure, but I don't think I'd say the same for the tenure of the CEO.
