How many hors a year does the average commercial pilot fly?

Just wondering what the average hours flying time a year is for a commercial pilot, and what sort of mileage that would work out?
Cheers

Maybe worth correcting the spelling on your thread title first:ok:

Thanks for pointing out my typo, Trafficpilot. I don't suppose you know the answer then>

Working for a regional airline i've averaged around 500 hours a year for the last 2.5 years and flown around 224,000 NM (straight line distance between airports).

I was going to correct the thread title for you all, but it's much more fun leaving it as it is!

Isn't the limit 900 hours a year? You can work out the mileage roughly by multiplying the figure by the cruise speed of the aircraft (knock off a few miles for T/O and landings though - amount will depend on whether the pilot does lots of short sectors or tends to fly longhaul). Your question is a bit like how long is a piece of string!

Chuckled at the typo heading for this thread....hors indeed!!!:p

If the offending word had a w in front, then the answer would be as many as they can get.

The 900 hours limit has been around for ages. There is now little or no science to justify it, but the effort required to change it means that no-one really tries that hard.
1200 hours would be acceptable to science, but the issue is not around the number - the potential "risk" is all in the scheduling. "Good" schedules would allow rest, recovery etc. Poor schedules are a risk to both pilots and customers.

There used to be a place in Singapore called Four floors of w.........oh nevermind.:}

As a fighter pilot in years gone by I used to fly about 3-400 hors de combat a year.

flying visit with your curiosity as to what is in the log book and how much in the tanks enquire not about cap sizes and any relationship to crew harmony.

Thinks - a spectre of prostitution hovers over many a pilot's chequered and scabrous career.

(Ancient one, you mean a w in front and an e at the end.)

backseatjock 27th Apr 2010 23:36

Eightyknots - said four floors were still there last time I night stopped in SIN. Not that I ventured anywhere near it, of course and I wouldn't expect any other crew to do so either :=

Is there any other reason to stay at the Orchard Hotel? ;)

Last year. 135 hours. 45-60,000 miles?
Paxed a lot too.

This year, more hours. No hors though. :E
