Unlucky 13?

Sorry if this is a silly question but someone at work this evening was adamant that BA aircraft have no row thirteen due to its perception as an unlucky number. I think they're talking absolute bunkum. Who's right?

Shack37 25th Nov 2008 21:35

Don't know about ba but the last two AF aircraft I flew in had no row 13.:ok:

agent x 25th Nov 2008 21:46

There's no row 13 to be found on any bmi / bmi regional or bmibaby aircraft, don't know about BA though!

Ax

The Real Slim Shady 25th Nov 2008 21:53

No row 13 on Ryanair.

eastern wiseguy 25th Nov 2008 21:58

No row 13 on Ryanair

Yes there is....it is just not numbered that way:ok::ok:

C172 Hawk XP 25th Nov 2008 22:02

I'm not superstitious . . . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . after all, it's jolly unlucky to be superstitious !

:ok:

Luap 25th Nov 2008 22:13

In some Asian country's the number 4 is considered unlucky.

Do those aircraft have a row 4?

13 please 25th Nov 2008 22:26

We have row 13s on BA aircraft....

Load Toad 25th Nov 2008 23:49

I can't recall noticing if aircraft in East Asia have no row 4 but it is normal for buildings to have no floor numbers that contain a 4 and some also miss out 13.

Final 3 Greens 26th Nov 2008 06:58

Look at Alitalia if you ever travel with them.

No row 13 or 17 (equally unlucky in their culture.)

A2QFI 26th Nov 2008 07:41

We Virgos don't believe in this superstition nonense!

JEM60 26th Nov 2008 09:06

Flew to Brussles once on a BA737 on Friday13th, and sat in the 13th row. I'm still here!!!

denis555 26th Nov 2008 09:15

Not forgettiung the WW2 Halifax bomber -"Friday the 13th"

Apparently the skipper was asked by the crew chief what he wanted to call it and he replied "oh anyting-I'm not superstitous"...

Neither am I but it would take some b*lls to do 30 missions with that written on the side - but they did!

Tudor 26th Nov 2008 09:55

Thanks for all the replies...so there's an element of truth in what my work colleague said but it doesn't apply to BA whom she claimed it did. I look forward to putting her straight tonight :}

Load Toad 26th Nov 2008 09:56

...as long as they didn't fly under any ladders they'd be OK.

Anyway - just checked Seat Guru and ANA miss out row 4 and China Eastern do but not CX or Air China.

It's all a load of bolleaux anyway.

13Alpha 26th Nov 2008 10:03

Absolute bunkum. BA planes certainly do have a row 13.

On the other hand, quite a lot of KLM planes don't :8:

klm Aircraft

Incidentally it's a well-known fact that pax seated in seats 13B and 13C subsequently suffer all sorts of unfortunate life events - so I recommend that all pax and check-in staff leave those seats vacant just in case.

Octopussy2 26th Nov 2008 10:55

It's fine to fly under ladders, so long as you cross your fingers whilst doing so...

muppetbum 26th Nov 2008 14:57

Our condo tower on the edge of china town has no 4 , 13 , 14 or 24 th floors.

The other day there was a small child reading off the numbers as we went down , obviously learning to count. Wouldn't like to be his teacher trying to fill in the missing numbers!

The SSK 26th Nov 2008 15:33

I guarantee you that BA used not to have a row 13.
That's BA as in BOAC

PaperTiger 26th Nov 2008 15:36

Slightly tangential, but I once saw a group of passengers refuse to get on a plane after one of them noticed what was painted on the side:

N666DL

Yes, it happened in the US Bible Belt. :hmm:
