Transfer from JFK to EWR
Is it easy? Best way? Cheapest Way? Time involved?
|
Best way - Helicopter (flyush.com - although stops over in manhattan) ~ $200
Second best - Town car - allow 2 - 3 hrs Cheapest - ? probably train jfk->queens->manhattan->nynj path->ewr |
Olympic Airporter (vans) run hourly 0800-2000 and take 90 minutes. $27.

It's about as easy as getting from Gatwick to Stansted (which is to say: not very easy at all). Assuming you're not prepared to spend $200 on a chopper then the train at around $30 is probably your best bet - I'd go AirTrain (JFK-Jamaica), LIRR (Jamaica-Penn Central), NJTransit (Penn-Newark). This gives you 'only' three changes (including the airport shuttle at EWR), which may make a difference if you've a lot of luggage.
Out of the rush hours you can try a cab - I just hope you don't get the driver I had who (a) didn't know the way to Newark and (b) was only capable of effective communication in French and Haitian Creole :ugh: |
A taxi (in reasonable traffic) is a 35 minute ride don't be taken by their offer of a 'fixed price off the meter' insist the meter be used.
It will cost you $100 though ! |
Are you sure, stilton? It's 36 miles, I reckon any time under an hour would be good going (and if any of the freeways/bridges are blocked, it could be much longer)!
|
Pax, stilton is A1 right. $100 minimum with meter and tip. In fact, if you try to negotiate an "off meter" trip, this is where they'll start.
|
The cheapest way is:
Q10 bus JFK - Lefferts Boulevard $2.00 It goes from Terminal 4. Subway line A to Chambers St $2.00 Walk to WTC station Path WTC - Newark $1.50 Local bus Route 62 $1.35 Total $8.85 You may be able to get a free transfer with a Metrocard - you will need to check on the web. I did this in April - prices may have changed since then. Standard disclaimer! I only suggest this with limited baggage and no jet lag. Try a more expensive option if you are arriving on an intercontinental flight with heavy baggage. Happy travelling! |
Sorry, clareprop, I wasn't very clear with my comment. I was querying the estimate of 35 minutes for the journey, which I would regard as very optimistic (particularly if there's much traffic about).
$100+ sounds perfectly plausible :E |
He got in the cab and said "How much to Newark?" "80bucks plus tip" was the reply. Well, my friend huffed and puffed in a very English way but as he was in the cab, my friend guessed the driver just gave up and agreed $50. When they arrived, very late and very dark, after an uncomfortable journey with neither speaking to the other, $50 was flung at the driver together with a $10 tip. My friend didn't even wait for a receipt. It was only the day after that he realised that he appeared to missing one of the two $100 bills he had in his wallet...:ooh: |
