Economy on upper deck?
 

Do any of the carrieres that operate 747-400s, or those that will be receiving the A380 have economy seating in the upper deck? I've always wanted to ride in the upper deck.

I know that Air Pacific have upper deck economy on their 744s. There are probably others too.

Singapore has upper deck economy on the A380 but Qantas and Emirates do not.

JL/NH here definitely do. ANA upper deck window seats have a nice luggage bin also just next to your seat. (Caveat; I strongly suspect that's only/mostly domestic/charter)

British Air used to have economy seats on the upper deck of their transatlantic 747s, back around 1996-7, but I don't know whether they still do or not. It was wonderful, almost like flying in a private jet. And the window seats had a storage bin between the seat and the window where you could put your legs up almost like a sleeper seat.

All BA 744s' now have New Club World in the upper deck I'm afraid...

JAL do, or they did, flew upper deck economy BNE-NRT although it was 3 years ago, great view :ok:

Indeed Mark in CA, BA in days gone past had economy up top and the front row had about 15 feet of legroom to the cockpit door. Much prized by regulars including myself for whom their fisted tight companies would only pay for one to go in the back.

I remember going to YVR with BA almost exactly 7 years ago in a rattly old 742...desperately requesting upper deck seating to be told that it was closed off due to low loads...both ways :(:(

EVA has economy upstairs - seatguru shows 10 rows of 3x3

... and JAL NRT/SIN is also 747 with upper deck economy ... but might not be a convenient route either for jsfboat, judging from your profile:E. Then again, if you find yourself in this neck of the woods...

To echo rjkrjk's comments (this is almost required knowledge here in fact)... seatguru can answer this question, but you'll have to search the hard way, airline by airline.

Deck 2 really feels like business class for the price of economy. Just hope the JAL/ANA bean-counters aren't watching this thread in case it disappears! :{

I flew upper-deck on a charter with Air Atlanta a few years ago. Manchester to Orlando I think.

I've flown in trog class on EVA upstairs which is rather nice. If you have to fly trog then upstairs on a nice 744 is the best way to do it.

87 people ona 747 some years ago South African Airways Heathrow- Cape Town. Captain says sit where you like, take 3 rows if you want. Fell asleep over the Isle of Wight, woke up over Luanda. Brilliant.

Many years ago flew from Syd to Nrt on the Upper Deck in cattle class, rather good experience as the flight was very light and overnight, the good ladies busied themselves downstairs and left the upper deck galley free for my use .... Not sure if that was supposed to be the case but as you can imagine, carry of luggage weighed slightly more and the old feet were a little unsteady on landing ....... Still think back with fond memories of my little cocktail den in the skies .... ;)

I remember travelling on a BA flight out of San Franciso in upper deck economy (*B747-200 G-XXXX "City of Peterborough"*) Parents were in club and too tight to pay for me to go in club also. The Flight attendant took pity on me (only 12-13) at the time, and she shared her McVities chocolate biscuits with me.
I also seem to remember, maybe incorrectly that only a curtain seperated the upperdeck from the flightdeck. How times have changed :(

Is it possible that your parents didn't want to sit with you as they had discovered you were pretty unpleasant and tactless? I've never been called a "squat" before. :=

SAA did indeed have Y upstairs from the -300 onwards but they are an all Airbus fleet now.

And i apologise, i guess my brain wasn't in gear, i had flown back from Beijing (In club world) this afternoon, after a 4 day business trip

Cool! "Squat" was a new one on me. No harm done !

Flew recently in upper deck economy with Air France from Paris to Rio. Is quite spacious with the luggage area between the seat and window.
