Inflight refreshments - transatlantic

Now that most(all?) American airlines have introduced a charge for alcoholic drinks on their flights, what is the situation with regard to codeshare flights?

If I buy a ticket through Virgin, and fly on a Continental flight, am I required to pay for alcoholic drinks?

Not desperate, just asking! :)

The rules of the airlines whose metal you are flying apply.

So, Continental metal = Continental rules/charges apply.

Thanks Hartington, will have to brush up on my flight codes!

Depending on who you fly, it could be worse than just paying for alcoholic drinks.

United Airlines is about to discontinue meals for those flying economy across the Atlantic from Washington Dulles to Europe, moving instead to buy on board.

Could be a bit of a shock if you had bought a ticket from Lufthansa!
