Connecting in Manchester - minimum time required
 

For stupid reasons I need to take the 10pm CO flight from Newark to Manchester and then connect there to a flight to central Europe.

Most attractive suggestion is a BMI flight leaving about 90 min. later. Is that feasible, assuming flight is on time (big assumption, I know)?

Is that onward flight really BMI or is it BMI Baby? Will the whole journey be undertaken on one ticket or will you be buying two separate tickets - one ticket is possible if it's BMI and very unlikely if it's Baby.

The point is that 90 minutes is pushing it. If you have one ticket and miss the connection then (in theory) there is a responsibility on the delivering carrier to sort you out an alternative because the journey is one contract. Two tickets = 2 contracts and each one depends on you presenting yourself at check in on time and if you don't make check in for the onward flight you could be in big trouble.

CO and BMI operate from differrent terminals at MAN which could increase connection time.

Your flight must be with BMI Baby as BMI do not fly into Europe from Manchester.
Just curious about your actual destination as BMI Baby do not have any flight to 'Central Europe' within approx. 90 mins of arrival of CO100.

BMI Fly into Lyon direct from Manchester.

The flights the CO man was on about, are probably code share on LH,
to Munich or Duss, which dept. within the time scale.

CO use Terminal 2. Just be mindful if you have to transfer to Terminal 3 that you can no longer make the journey on foot via the glass aerial walkway. Access from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 is blocked off for some reason (anyone know why?)

You now use the aerial walkway to the railway station and then go down to street level where there is a free bus service to Terminal 3 - It runs every 8 minutes during the day.

I made this transfer last Friday afternoon, including immigration, baggage delivery and check-in at T3 in 40 minutes but I would admit that it was one of those occassions where everything seemed to go exceptionally well.

Not quite, T2 to T3 is still walkable (I did it on Thursday). I didn't trust the bus so kept walking.

Just stay on the elevated walkway, turn left in T1 check-in, and take the lift down to ground floor. You then exit the airport and trundle across to T3, passing underneath Olympic House. It's a bit crunchy but actually quite quick.

Certainly true that T2 to T3 is the longest trek Man has to offer. I'd want an hour as a minimum safe margin.

The old T1>T3 through route is (I believe) now being converted to a variety of airside lounges. I assume they will re-open a more palatable through route once the current building is completed.
