Hi,
Just been invited to a wedding in Toronto in Aug and looking at the normal web flight search engines I'm a bit gobsmacked with the prices for a flight spending 7-10 days away. Air Transat comes up cheapest at about £450, next cheapest direct is BA at £728.
Has travelling in Europe, EJ etc, kept me blissfully unaware of trans-Atlantic prices?

Also you could try flyglobespan to YHM Hamilton (Toronto).

Globespan do some pretty cheap fares. Hamilton is about 40 minutes from downtown Toronto (traffic permitting).

Try FlyZoom for cheap fares....and Thomas Cook also fly to Toronto.

Uummm, it's peak season and you are booking less than three months in advance. Most folks book their summer holidays as soon as the booking opens. Sorry - but the airlines know that people will arrange weddings at less than 12 months notice and in the middle of the summer!

Im going there in September, whats the best way to get to
the falls is there a train or bus or both? whats best.

Flying MyTravel A330, has anyone flown with them, what are they like?

If you're a train buff, it's possible to get there by train - see VIA Rail Canada, C$21 each way. The train actually runs between Toronto and New York, and you should be aware that long-distance passenger trains in North America often run many hours late! The rail station is a couple of miles from the falls, so you'll probably want a taxi too. Toronto's Union Station is an impressive building in its own right.

There are a myriad tour bus companies that will take you to Niagara Falls with a variety of more or less inclusive packages.

As you will be there in the Fall, if you want to see some of the glorious foliage colours, you could do worse than take a day trip on the Northlander (Ontario Northland Railway). But I'm sure there are some locals who visit this forum and can give you far better advice than I.

Re visiting the falls: If you can drive - hire a car. Its about 1.5 - 2 hours and allows you to hop over to the US side if you want and visit Niagara on the lake on the way back

If you've got enough time and transportation, get down to Niagara on the lake and check out the jet boat ride!!!!

Not the cheapest thrill, but certainly worth it, and at least the water will be a 'little' warmer then!!!

Also the town of Niagara on the lake is 'quaint' unlike Niagara itself!! :rolleyes:

Agree,hiring a car is a good choice.

There are plenty of tours down to Niagara, just search with the words Niagra and Tours.

I did a trip in March 06 when there were lumps of ice going over the falls, that's why Maid of the Mist does not operate in winter. Transport was in a 20 seater bus with stops for wine tasting, at Niagra on the Lake and at Niagara Helicopters before going to the falls.

When it is cold outside a nice warm Bell 407 is the best way to go sightseeing.

Thanks to you all for the advice, I might split the holiday between Toronto and Niagara and any advice is appreciated.

Not sure where you got the BA quote from I have just looked at BA.com and been quoted £639.10. This is for 7th Aug out and return on the 16th Aug. Can't be more specific as you didn't mention any particular dates

I agree best way is to hire a car, used to go to Toronto about once a year before flying on to see my parents. Whilst downtown, you only need the underground/busses and your feet so you could do a 1 day car hire for niagara. Can I also recommend on Queen St (If I remember correctly) just before it intersects with Yonge St there is a restaurant called The Armadillo - well worth a visit (or at least it was last time I went). Recommend the CN Tower (sunny day and go to the top) also the SkyDome, Hockey Hall of Fame and much more.

It will obviously depend what dates you are travelling, but Zoom have return fares from LGW to Toronto (although not all flights are direct) in August for around £384 including all taxes and charges. The fares do jump around though, some days £99 each way and then the next day it is £199 each way.
