US 'may probe' passenger details
 

Sorry to start yet another thread on this overall subject but could not find one in the past two months that could be used.

The above is a headline from the BBC on 1st Janaury 2007. The substance is:
UK passengers travelling to the US could have their credit card transactions and e-mail accounts inspected by officials. A document released under the Freedom of Information Act reveals they could now access bank and e-mail accounts.

Naturally the word could is the operative one here and should not affect many but we all know of the times that the USA has turned back an a/c because they thought a name was on their blacklist. I have no doubt that the Dept Homeland Sec would say that this "... allows them to check further and so eliminate people from their enquiries and thus improve the security of all and reduce the inconvenience of all". :yuk:

It looks like BBC News has removed the page (Google News is showing the same link that you posted). Now if I were a conspiracy theorist :D

Obviously the BBC has discovered that their usually rigorous checking of the facts slipped up on this rare occasion and they are now researching afresh... :hmm:

Of course, they were only reporting on what The Daily Telegraph said and their site has no mention of it either. How fortunate that it was all a storm in a teacup.
