Last Friday's (25/2) BA Cancellations.

Flying through LHR last Friday, I noticed many BA flight cancellations. Later, I learned that this was allegedly due to the weather.

This seems odd as no other airline flying to the same destinations seemed to be cancelling flights. BMI etc.

Are BA's crewing problems still happening?

It aint that simple FOZ - a flight may well be delayed due to bad weather not on your intended route, because that ship is coming from somewhere where the weather is lousy - heavy snow in Zürich for instance delaying the previous flight to LHR

Just because another operator leaves on time doesn´t mean that BA are lying (& no - never worked for them...)

BA pushed for higher aircraft utilisation post 9/11 and this seems to have left them vulnerable to operational disruptions like weather that quickly snowball into bad delays and/or cancellations.

I've never quite figured out why BA suffer more that someone like bmi, given that bmi's utilisation is at least as high (or higher) and they operate at the same airport.

I suspect that BA aren't as good at pulling out the stops to recover the situation as others. It certainly is something they need to solve, as their competitive position is nowhere if their operational performance is rubish!

Just checked the cancellations for that day...

BA cancelled 60 flights (30 arr / 30 deps); AF canelled 1 arr / dep rotation. Noone else cancelled a single flight on 25 Feb!!!

Something is definitely wrong with BA.

1 delayed inbound could, in theory, affect 3 further outbound flights. The inbound aircraft will leave late (obviously) and if the cabin crew are due to work a different aircraft that will be delayed and if the flight crew are working a different aircraft that could be late too!
