Bad Experiences on Planes

Come on lets hear them. :ooh:

TopBunk 23rd Dec 2004 02:59

Well I fell asleep in First Class after a lovely meal on a 13 hour flight. When I awoke, we still had another 2 hours before landing. Maybe I should have had another after dinner brandy?

Avman 23rd Dec 2004 14:10

Following a 2 hr flight from PMI and an evening in the pub, I married one of the F/As. If that wasn't bad enough, she's still with me 32 years later  !!!

1990: SABENA: JNB ~ BRU with a stop in Kinshasa. Whilst SN service was never much good, I was in Club on the upper deck, so thought it would be OK.

Then found that the woman behind me had a VERY new infant. Each time is squarked, her only action was to pour milk into it. In due course, it 'filled up' and I could hear AND smell the 'overflow'. :yuk:

She then decided to change it's nappy by attempting to use the side storage as a table. (in the upper deck of 747s, the storage is alongside rather than above. I pointed this out to the hostie who banned her to the toilet. :hmm:

After picking up pax (and that's another story ;) ) we continued North. Then Libya (or someone) closed their airspace and we had to go West till we could get around to Casablance for an unscheduled tech stop.

This lengthed the journey by some five hours altogether and SN did but me up in a hotel to get the LHR conenction the next day, which was good.

What was not good, was the continued baby moments all the d@mm way to BRU. From boarding the a/c and meeting the brat, it was to be nearly 18 hours before I could get off. :ugh:

Great reading guys! We seem to have moved from a shortage of alcohol to incidents with baby's. :p Keep them coming. :ok:

How about Air India? I recall flying to Bombay from Toronto and back via London a number of times back in the early nineties when only about half the lavs were usable. The others were taped shut. This was on their older 747-200s. Not the worst experience but very inconvenient :oh:

P.S. The F/As didn't make it any better as they apparently failed charm school:(

Boss Raptor 27th Dec 2004 10:28

Absolutely anything that involved Sabena - Same Awful Bloody Experience Never Again

Avman 27th Dec 2004 14:44

Strangely enough Boss Raptor I never had a bad experience on any of my SABENA flights. I must have been lucky I guess ;)

Flying from Islamabad to Manchester was always hell, particularly the stench coming from the loos. :ugh:

Also flying with Spanair to Malabo - always lost my baggage and always had to complain to the crew about the Captain smoking in the cabin on a Non Smoking Flight. Always had a feeling that the crew were niffed off with me and chucked my bags out somewhere over the Sahara.:E

Fair dos, Avman is right, I also had plenty of great flights with SN. Although just before the end, I heard they were rather ropey.

Got to be another kid story again !

I was on an Easyjet flight from Glasgow to Luton, this kid never stopped bawling, crying, shouting very very loudly and banging the tray table from the moment the plane took off until we had all disembarked at Luton........... It was unfortunate that I was sat in the row in front of him, the parents did nothing to stop the noise and just sat there, other PAX were passing comment to the parents but nothing was done ......... Thankfully it was only just under the hour flight but how many times have we been on flights where noisy kids and babies make a row and disturb folks who just want to relax and enjoy the flight ?

Wouldnt it be nice for a soundproofed area to be installed at the rear of all aircraft where noisy kids could be seated !!

and, no, i dont hate kids................

flybhx 2nd Jan 2005 02:03

How about a soundproofed crew rest container with a nanny - I do hate kids

Boss Raptor 2nd Jan 2005 10:20

I reckon kids = Skykennel = hold :)

Dont start off the possessive father/family types they'll have a field day on this one they always do

IanH 2nd Jan 2005 10:23

Let'em shout and moan !

Its still unfair on the rest of us who have to put up with the noise and inconvenience etc etc ................

Kids stories - we all have them but this one takes some beating. Lady travelling with 3 kids in BA Club from Toronto. As you do, she took the reverse window, eldest windowside aisle, 2 young ones in the middle row. Reckon they were aged about 2 and 4. Poor guy travelling on his own got to be surrogate father for the entire journey. The woman slept the whole way. The kids didnt. I kept my headphones on 3 rows up.

Well i'm just getting back from my Florida trip I left on christmas day, the trip to Washington where we had to switch planes was great the plane was empty so we had the back row to our selves and the flight crew kept offering us drinks and they even sat and chatted with us since they didn't have anything else to do. Now from Washington to Florida the plane was full and i was across a fella who decided he wanted to take a nap. Now the bad part about that was he started to snore loudly and I didn't bring any music to listen to so for about 30 minutes I had to listen to him snore. Thankfully we hit some turbulence and that woke him up.

Sunday mornings; the early flight from Abidjan to Bamako with Air Ivoire. Oh what bliss!

Abusive cabin crew, extremely late running, cancellations without warning....

All Air Ivoire flights used to leave from the domestic terminal in Abidjan where there wasn't really room for passport and police checks, so the crush at the desks was always appaling. On one occaission we had to wait in the car park for an hour because the man with the key didn't turn up to open the terminal.

Things were so bad, that when Air Ivoire went belly up for a while, I was delighted to be able to move over to the comparative luxury of Air Afrique (luxury and Air Afrique normally only occur in the same sentence if there is a negative).

Please don't take this as an attack on all African Airlines - I've had great flights on KQ, Ethiopian and CamAir.

CargoOne 3rd Jan 2005 09:43

For many years I've been wondering why SABENA is known as "Such A Bloody Experience - Never Again" because I never flown them before. Now after 6 flights from BRU to Africa with SN Brussels I know why :yuk:

American Airlines MIA back to London overnight.......behind me 5-6yr old rugrat. 1hr into flight said rat starts kicking back of seat. I put up with this for a while then totally P****D off complains to mother who says he is only expressing himself and to leave him alone as he will give up shortly....I explained to her if didn't stop it I would express my self in a manner she would not like....look of thunder from mother who complined to cabin crew about my attitude....she got short shrift from them also!!

Got my own back couple of hours later when rat started running up the aisle banging headrests, caught him on the way past with a sharp ankle tap and went face first up the aisle got up with lovely carpet burn up side of nose :E

Mother tried to blame me but nobody saw me or didn't admit to seeing me.
