Ek plane in adelaide

Hi all,

Just a quick question I saw an Emirates 777 passenger aircraft parked up at Adelaide Airport today away from the terminal.
Emirates don't fly in or out of Adelaide just curious as to why it was there?
Anyone know the goss as to why ?

Fog in Melbourne, perhaps?

From emirates website

Flight EK424 from Dubai to Perth, which departed Dubai on the 22 July and was diverted to Adelaide due to fog, will now be operated by a Qantas charter flight that will arrive in the Qantas domestic terminal in Perth at 22:30 local time today, 23 July.

wow some diversion, that's about 2600 miles. Do flights like that carry all that extra fuel?

It's 1300 miles. They'll refuel at Adelaide!

Crewmeal, you may be thinking that the a/c flew to MEL and then diverted to ADL. The decision to divert to ADL (which I would imagine is close to their track from from DXB to MEL) was most likely taken en route with a view of refuelling and continuing on to MEL as soon as conditions permited. Presumably the fog in MEL persisted long enough for the crew to run out of hours. So not really a case of very much extra mileage.

The post says the flight was going to PER not MEL, that was my query. Do we know if the aircraft made an approach in to Perth and then diverted to ADL or did they get the weather en route and decided it was below limits and went straight to ADL. The mileage would be different in both cases.

Anyway I don't want to split hairs.
