Ladies and Gentlemen of the Cabin

I note the posts between you all which air the current and past problems between cabin crew, but am perplexed as to why you post on this forum which has been designated for the Pax perspective. Am I being pedantic? I don't know but the gripes/comments/experiences inter cabin crew should surely be assigned to the specific Cabin Crew thread. I am enlightened by the posts certainly, but presume the points raised between you would be more widely debated on your own thread. No?

I enjoy having Cabin Crew visit this forum. It gives SLF an opportunity to engage in questions and answers and also provides Cabin Crew an idea how some of their clients feel about the situation.

I hope that Cabin Crew and other airline employees continue to engage.

Yes I think you are being pedantic. As has been said by others on this thread to comments similar to yours, cabin crew members have been good enough to post on this thread where we as pax can respond. BG, JSL and MIDLGW have also taken the time to answer and inform us SLF on many points outside of the current dispute. I for one am grateful for that. Please leave modding to the mods.

Walsh may have a problem...

...but it isn't striking cabin crew. That's been put in the "finished" pile by everyone other than the BASSA heirarchy it would seem.

Walsh's problem is more with his acquistion strategy, and the feeling he's well behind the curve on this one. This article in Bloomberg Businessweek carries the detail. This is where Walsh's legacy as CEO will be made or broken, and that's why he's already moved on from the cabin crew dispute.

I used to engage with CC on the other Thread ... naughty me, I'm not employed by an airline. I have lost count of how many temporary bans, and deleted accounts that resulted. I have very mixed views about the 'mixed democracy' on PPRuNe ... but on balance I guess I'd rather be able to discuss matters on this Thread with CC. After all, I help pay their wages, so we ought to be able to engage in discussions.

Cabin crew should be welcomed on this thread - even though passengers are as popular as poison on "the other one".

Nevertheless, does all this dirty linen really have to be washed in public? It resembles all the grumbling and gossip emanating from behind the galley curtains.

There is a PM facility available, you know.

Herro ... how are you?

You are absolutely right, as I would have expected. Do the battles by PM or on the CC thread, and talk nicely to the people who pay the wages in here!

Still, it's nice to be able to chat to the sensible CC, who tend to be the ones who come here. I will confess I got very tired trying to engage in debate with the 'brain dead' on the CC Thread

Last one, I promise

BettyGirl, I wasn't having a go at you. I was just explaining what's going on at LGW. I can't help being protective of my base, and I wanted to explain it isn't just a bed of roses and sunshine.

For our lovely passengers, I apologise for the interruption. I'll go back to reading, unless I can answer a specific question or comment.

Are the improved striker/non-striker relations that JSL reports from Gatwick putting in an appearance at Heathrow? I have flown both shorthaul and longhaul with BA quite frequently in the last three or four months and have noticed that the working relationships between cabin crew, at least to the extent that they are visible to passengers, seem to be almost as good as ever. The general level of attention to and interaction with the SLF has been up there with the best in most cases, from both the relative youngsters and those of of less tender years. The only exception that I saw was a young lady in WT+ on a flight from IAD to LHR who seemed to be keeping herself to herself and presented a fairly sour face to her passengers. Perhaps she had personal concerns not directly connected to the job. However, whatever her reasons she did not override the good impression and very friendly service given by a young man and an older lady to two involuntary upgrades into Club World on the outward trip.

A little while ago on one of the threads, I think it was the employees only, there were suggestions that strikers were wearing their passes with the picture inwards as a recognition symbol. Last Sunday on the way out to the "B" gates at T5 I noticed a group of cabin crew chatting happily, one with an inward-turned pass and others with pictures showing on passes hanging from BA (definitely not BASSA) lanyards. Was this a sign of improving times?

On a different theme, I recall that shortly before the first strikes BA said that any EC member who had booked a journey that was affected by the strike and was transferred to another airline would be credited with the points and miles they would have earned if BA had carried them. The same applied if they decided that they alternatives were no good and took the option of getting there money back. That leaves very little reason for avoiding BA in the face of theats of further strikes. Since it is likely that a full longhaul programme will be flown that time (if indeed a strike happens) there is probably nothing to be gained in booking a fully refundable first class fare in the hope that BA will cancel the flight before you ask for your money back.

If true, he clearly thought that he was above the law but now it has caught up with him. Whatever happens he will almost certainly get a caution. The police will, of course, have the evidence and it remains to be seen what action they will take.

Dairyground,
It is very strange because I feel service on board my flights is good and attitude to pax is great, so I would not expect any passenger to see anything. However there is an atmosphere of being frightened to speak about the strike for fear of causing an upset. It is very strange because people know whats happening via websites but no one can talk about it at work, which causes a strange kind of stress always watching what you say. It is hard to explain.

Quote - Flyertalk forum - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ussion-51.html

"Good Evening everybody. Obviously got to be a bit careful now what I write but I can confirm I had a polite phone call from Heathrow Police today asking me to attend - with a solicitor - an interview next Wednesday under "malicious communications and harassment allegations".

I am assuming this has something to do with a few e mails I have sent to strike breaking CSD Davey Green who took it upon himself to start a mocking thread on our forum and then reported some answers to BA which resulted in a good member being suspended.

My take on this? BA can't handle what I am saying so they are calling in the police. Let's hope the police at Heathrow are above being used for Tony McCarthy's political pawns.

I would like to rely on police integrity here but as someone has pointed out tonight there are many ex police now working for BA's asset protection. Quite scary."

I suspect he sees himself as a martyr. Continuing to comment in such an astonishingly stupid way would fit with that.

He will be, just like the rest of us.

However, the term is favoured by ardent Trades Union militants to make them sound significant.

Don't shoot the messenger

A Martyr is not a dead person._ A Martyr is a living person who knows that he will be put to death because of what he says._ The word Martyr originally meant bringing witness or bearing witness.
