Didn't Baton Eyelid

Did anyone else catch the story about Simon Rattle and Lufthansa? SR used to be conductor of the City of Brum Symphony Orchestra of course, arguably the UK's finest orchestra, then last year moved to arguably the world's finest orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic.

When the great man returned to Birmingham in March to conduct a gig with his old band, he used Lufthansa. This is a 2-stage trip, but the only alternative is Easyjet from Luton (or Air Brussels via BRU), so you can't blame him for that. However LH somehow contrived to lose his baggage en route - containing of course his penguin suit and conductor's baton. Sir Simon was thus forced to tread the boards of his former glory that evening wearing crumpled Chinos, a golf sweater that had seen better days, and a floppy hat. And to conduct using a red crayon. Also - Nigel Kennedy happened to be in the audience, and was going to raise a stink with Rattle for stealing his act, until he learned the true circumstances.

Does anyone else have similar egg-on-chin moments to relate to do with the unforeseen consequences of baggage mishandling?

Not personally, but I do believe (on good authority) that the members of the CBSO themselves would have found it an experience that they could readily relate to.
