C210 Time
 
Hey All,

A mate of mine wanted to know if getting checked out on a 210 and getting some time up, would be a wise idea. This is of course pre CPL as he has around 100 hours.

I know there's probable insurance issues etc, but would it be of any advantage?

Also, are there any 210's around PF for hire/fly and what would be an appropriate cost per hour for this beast? I know Rossair have a few.....what are they like?

Any info would be great.

Natit, now that I have passed 300 posts I feel that I may be able to offer some advice.

Hours in high wing Cessna's are all good hours if you plan on venturing to the wide blue yonder for work...

I would concentrate more on getting the CPL and ATPL subjects first and then worry about the 210, then again I remember doing my CPL , when a 210 came in to the Marsh and took us for a fly - WOW I thought how big is this plane...

Basically do whatever you cashflow will let you...

Like HA said if your friend plans on getting a CPL and going north a little C210 time would be very advantageous. From memory PPL to CPL requires 35hrs PIC. If you did 10 of these hours in a C210 the additional cost would be minimised and it may be the factor that gets him a job over someone else up north.

I say do it if you can afford it by all means. When I did my CPL I would have benefited greatly from C210 time. I did the test in a C182 which I guess was a step down from the C210 so mate go for it...

Online bookings for private hire of C210 aircraft. Although it is Perth (Jandakot) based, there's heaps of information on costs, minimum hours required plus pdf/zip files for performance data, checklists and weight and balance for your mate to study up on.

If you can afford it go for it, I am flying the fastest 210's in the north, C210's rule

The C210 is a great machine to fly, however 100hrs may be a bit soon to step up. It would definitely be an advantage when scouring the bush for work. Many outback operators use them.

The C182RG would be a better aircraft to build hours in at that level of experience.

I am flying the fastest 210's in the north
Thats a big call mate! I flew the fastest C210 in the Kimberly (proven on several occasions) but I don't know about the NT or north QLD:D :D

I must say they are the work horse of the country and I've still got a soft spot for the ol'210

Ahhh VneII, the old paper run eh? I never flew it after our greasy mate powersanded the bottom fuselage at NWN, did it still go OK after? Who knows, it may have gone better! Perhaps the same will work for the bucket that the shmoo-boy has been promoted to.

The so called bucket I speak about is indeed a quality A/C and has had a rough ride this year but is back and carving holes in the sky once more(not the rwy). exmexican I request u get in contact.:)

You need to look further afield than your nostalgia and experience allows, the BIV wagon rules, even after sandblasting, ask VneII.( I am supposing we agree VneII?)
And shmooboy, I thought "bucket" would draw a bite, but when I read you referring to your sad race entrant as the same, I guess even you are admitting it. Back to grammar school for you, or was it Shaw?

Hey Pella, how you bin?!

Dat wun extractors/dual exhaust has found a new home, under me ute! I thought long and hard about it and saw the size of the mufflers and thought the sound of it wouldn't detract from the "stocka" pipe too much.

You other guys, I thought EDE was supposed to be the quickest 210 'round Kunna's way? ;)

Aaah it's all in good spirit..

Got a lot of good info and advice out of it tho...Friend still hasen't decided what to do..In the mean time, bumming round in a 172 :)

Ops, when I was in Darwin in late November, I couldn't believe the amount of people and their done up cars! Must be a massive hobby up there or something. And the damn personalised no. plates are pretty common too :)
