New Zealand Aircraft Hire - FAA validation

Has anyone gone through FAA certificate validation for NZ aircraft hire? I will be in the Wellington area for two weeks and hoped to rent an aircraft out of Wellington. I plan to travel to the south island as well and would like to rent again in Queenstown or Christchurch.

Any pointers on the validation process and good rental operators would be appreciated. I am interested in PPL VFR privileges, I have received mixed messages about the complexity of the validation from a few operators discussing an ATP/ATPL(L) conversion, not a validation.

Anyone with some ground truth and recent experience recommendations would be appreciated. I checked the NZ CAA web site and found it confusing well.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
JC

Not an uncommon question, call the Wellington Aero Club. They will be able to help you out, [email protected] or +64 04 3888 444

These folks are in the business of organising the sort of tour that you are interested in, and are familiar with the validation process.

Go this route. No aircraft hire in Queenstown, you might get one in wanaka if you are lucky.

That makes sense, I found it the same regarding aircraft hire in Wellington. Once again, PPRuNe comes through. I was more active on this site during my UK ATP(L) studies in the early 2000s. I only now find myself flying outside of the US again.
Regards,
John
