I travelled past on the train the other day. The runways are still there but it's now a forest. There's massive housing and commercial developments all around it. It always reminds me of the pleasure of my first solo there in 1983.

It always reminds me of the pleasure of my first solo there in 1983.

Good memories for me, too. Going back a few years now (how about January 1953), I did my first Mustang flight at Schofields in A68-144. Authorised by Flying Officer Milton Cottee of No 22 (City of Sydney)Squadron. "A courageous decision" Sir Humphrey would have said. Yet 210 hours total in the log book was normal for first solo in Mustangs in those days
