Anyone know of any UAV operators in this country? The whole UAV thing interests me a lot, would like to find out more, not a whole lot of information out there at the moment.

If Frank Martin is still involved it'll be a pretty good operation. |
From memory there use to be an outfit called aerosond (?) just out of Hamilton Vic. That was a few years ago though. I'm not sure if they have a base there or were just testing and refining the product.

Insitu Pacific ( a subsiduary of Boeing)operate UAVs. They have contracts with the Singapore Navy and have been operating them in Iraq and Afganistan for the Australian Army for abour 6 years. They are based in Brisbane and are trialling their use for commercial operations

QUT have a very active UAV research program going, and the Queensland Government sponsor a UAV outback challenge which used to be annually, but I think it is now every 2 years with s schools competition each year

Tried to post a form to that Academy but it said there was a problem with the site.
Any idea how much a course costs. Looks like it could be exy. |
Aerosonde are based in Blackburn, Victoria. They did some testing at Hamilton as well as 2 other locations. The company was started by Australian's but was sold to Textron. The Aerosone aeroplane (without meaning to demean it, its a clever thing) is like a big model aeroplane. The current state of UAV's is that they are more the size of FA18's. If you're serious about UAV's you'll need to go overseas and work for one of the major defense contractors.
