I have been searching MFT and i see mostly of you have replied positive:-)What is there reputation around australia?how long have they been in service?Do they have any graduates flying for airlines?Can anyone pm me with more info regarding MFT?

One of the owners of MFT is a B737 Captain for Virgin. One of their MECIR & CPL students from last year has been selected for Qantaslink.

I am sure that there are others...

Give it up!

You registered on Prune just over two years ago, and nearly all of your posts since then have been "What is this flying school like".

If you haven't got all the information you want after TWO YEARS then I really don't think that there's much help left for you.

You ask questions like:

and yet the twenty or so positive answers aren't enough for you. Nor are the dozens of other recommendations for MFT in several other threads on D&G!

And yet you still feel the need to ask questions like

Seriously, this is D&G! (You know, the forum where negative comments are like flies in February!). People create Prune identities on D&G just to slag off flying schools and employers! If there were any negative comments about the place, you'd have heard them by now!

Research is all very well, and choosing the correct school is important. But your questions are becoming more and more repetitive and inane.

If you can't make up your mind after two years, then there's not much hope for you!

Is this a problem?As i am not living in australia,i want to get as much as infos as possible before my father spends so much money on airplane tickets to check out the schools...time will be short for us downunder......:)

Hello fellow aviators!

I am also wating to become a pilot and in the process of picking an appropriate flying school. I've read very good things about both MFT and MFS and will be heading down there to check them both out sometime this week. Just a quick question, is there an intake period for these flying schools? I've heard from some friends that you can start in the middle of the year and therefore opted to take a 6months off this year after graduation from my bachelors degree.

Don't forget guys that there is another factor that does make MFT stand out above the rest of the flying schools at YMMB, the fact that a portion of the flight instructors are current airline pilots and hence are well connected to the industry. A lot of people miss the concept that once you do graduate with a CPL/MECIR that you actually need to get out there and find work! MFT is one of the few places around where you can actually meet people who can genuinely help get your CAREER underway and not just your training. Too many a flying school in this country who simply half ass train you and then boot you out the door when your finished and payed up without a single helping hand to help you find that slippery first job. Believe me when I say that a good reference for a resume and a helping hand is worth a thousand hours when it comes to job hunting and thats where MFT shines.

I agree MFT is one of the better schools in MB but I've heard mixed reports about some of their instrument training, apart from the common problem of aged aircraft. But then this is a rumour network, right ?

Nobody's perfect. Do your research properly before committing.

Do what everyone else does guys - advertise in the mags - stop browsing this site and getting the acolytes to bend over.

Silly Chilli: You have missed the point entirely. If you are looking for a GOOD school what sort of twit would primarily rely on an advertisement they see in a magazine :eek:. And in addition to this my lonely little friend :{, MFT's primary source of clients come from walk in's and individuals whom have done their research and spoken to people in the industry whom very openly recommend to go and do their training with them; not from the website as you so inaccurately suggest.

By the way kiddo, the "I love Glen Brigade" does not arise from thin air. People are drawn to the school because he and don't forget Pete, genuinely care about the individuals training at present and where they will end up in the future. The evidence is everywhere, from people all over the industry and whom gladly and continually recommend MFT as the place to go and do your training.

One last thing; If MFT was to conform and do what everyone else does... it would just become another school then. Somehow I don't think they will be likely take your worldly advice mate.

I've been down to MFT, sensational atmosphere.. fantastic crew, excellent facilities.
I was around back in the day when another school occupied that building - thankfully genuine people have since taken over and created a fantastic school - MFT.
As for advertising Chilly - don't get upset!!
A business has truely succeeded if it can rely on word of mouth.. this school has built an excellent reputation based on quatlity training and genuine care -stop thowing your money around advertising and spend it on your students you goose...

Well as you are well aware (as you use this forum) it clearly is a very good way to talk about good or poor schools. After all, you read them.....
If people are happy to write nice things about the school, leave them be. Go ahead and slander Glen, but I personally feel that you're a poor sport and clearly have no idea who or what Glen stands for.

I had my first flight at MFT over a year ago. At the time I was still visiting many of the schools at Moorabbin trying to decide which would be best suited to my needs, and yes, considering the cadetships and uni courses available, even though realistically I had no chance of being able to afford the upfront dough. I was absolutely floored by the level of service offered by MFT. Glen offered to have a chat with me to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a degree, flying part time etc. He made sure all my questions were answered, and gave me his honest opinion (mostly positive) of his competitors. Pete is also a very approachable guy, and introduced himself straight away.

The same cannot be said about some of the other flight schools I visited. One even seemed to look down in contempt at begginers (at least the impression that I received). Canned that option very quickly.

Hi there from a new poster.
I have just moved down to Melbourne with about 50hrs flying under my belt and have just been to Moorabbin to check out some schools.
I was very impressed with MFT as the OWNER of the flight school came and spoke to me and wasn't at all hurried by the mass of questions i had to ask. Very helpful.
It seems that there is a strong link with the school and Virgin as many of the instructors fly or have flown with them.
I was also impressed by the atmosphere in the building. Students are encouraged to hang around after lessons, ask questions, chat to other students/instructors etc. When I went upstairs there were students playing pool, reading notes on the couches, drinking behind the bar.
Oh yeah and the sim looks fun too!
Overall very impressed. Looking forward to my first flights in the next few weeks.
