UAV's

Do any of you chaps know of CASA requirements for the operation of survey UAV's. I was of the belief that it was illegal to use them within continental australia. I heard that a Uni was testing them for survey work and they had approval??. Might have to find another job.

Fugro has been operating UAV's for about 18 months, check the NOTAMS for are 61, occasionally they have a NOTAM out for UAV flights.

the way i've seen some pvt pilots behave at uncontrolled (in fact controlled) aerodromes you would think they are unmanned with any level of intell!:bored:

There is occasionally UAV operations in the St Leonards area in Victoria. (South East of Geelong on the peninsula)
They just issue a NOTAM.

It's a wonder they're not calling them UPAVs (Un-Personned Aerial Vehicles) in these here politically correct days!

Check out CASR Subpart 101.F.

Fair few requirements, UAV contoller approval and UAV operating certificate required for serious operations.
BAK and radio operators certificate needed if not a pilot.
