Wilderness Management Draft Policy for SW West Australia

General Aviation - Beware an Impending Government Airspace Grab by Stealth.

The Dept of Conservation and Land management in WA, (CALM), has posted a draft policy document for the management of wilderness areas on it's website

See: www.wa.gov.au/national_parks/management

Check carefully Section 4.7 on p3, and Section 5.5 and 5.6 on p5 - and gnash your teeth!

There will be a "consultative" meeting with all stakehjolders at Manjimup WA, on Saturday 9th August at 10.00AM. (You'll note that this has been very well publicised!!)

This represents an outrageous and unlawful attempt to prevent GA entering airspace which belongs to all Australians, not just a few who want solitude!

With typical sneakiness, this alliance of state government and treehuggers is attempting to overrule Commonwealth law.

Whilst this is only a draft policy statement, it could be rushed through before we have time to do much.

We need a legal opinion on it - ASAP.

Attend the Manjimup meeting if you have an interest in this.

cheers,

Same as the NT

RV6

The NT Gov (Labor Bastards) tried to do this earlier this year at Katherine George. It was supposedly on behalf of the LOCALS who did'nt want the noisy, smelly aeropales flying in thier air, unless of course you pay them to do it.

The Fed Gov stepped in ant told them to piss it off right quick, and from the speed which the NT Loonies did, it would appear that the Feds were right.

How about you get onto them and find out if the attempt is LEGAL under fed laws, as it is my understanding that once you go above the hight of the trees (and I know they are bloody big in that part of the SW) its not state owned anymore. ie Fed laws for objects higher than 360ft above terrain.

There was a thread on the Katherine Airspace issue which may contain some ammo for you if you go to the meeting. maybe some one can recall its name, something like "Katherine George Airspace Closure" from about 6 months ago.

All the best.

Bet you are glad your not a Glassair, hot bottom when they slide.

One of the paras RV6 refers to is as follows:

5.5 The Department of Conservation and Land Management will liaise with relevant authorities responsible for controlling aircraft movements to discourage flying under 5000 feet over wilderness except for emergency and essential management operations. Aircraft pilots and/or
commercial operators will be requested to abide by flight guidelines that may be developed for
specific wilderness areas.
btw RV6, I think we both know one GA pilot living in Manji who no doubt will be very vocal in his views about this.

BWWAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Can just hear it now:
Mel Centre: ABC you are entering an environmentally sensitive zone climb and operate above 5000

So can I decend lower to remain VMC? Bet they never thought of that one.

Imagine all the noise nazis in their crocheted beanis sitting on top of the Gloucester tree fire tower taking down aircraft regos. :p

Should we also expect new amendments to the DAH with restricted zones being established over the SW in order to protect the hearing of the Bandicoot, Chudich and other furry friends? Protect the environment my @rse. Seems to me someone was clearly under a bit of pressure during a management think tank and this was the best they could come up with.

These CALM wallies are obviously smoking too much native grass when they venture out scrub in their landcruisers.

Deviating off track slightly but this thinking reminds me of a certain wheatbelt shire that was in a quandary as to how to collect landing fees. They didn't want to incur the cost of installing AVDATA so decided in their wisdom it would be a good idea to impose a levy equally divided amongst all the flying schools in Jandakot as well as a few remote bases. That one really had me rolling on the floor laughing my proverbials off .:*

These people have no idea about anything outside their own little world. A quick phone call to DOTARS in Perth would have clarified their legal position.
