Come on S***** give us the run down, no bulls***, there are many pissed off pilots who hate fighting among themselves for work.

Get off your high horse for a while and give people the answer they require.

No silly answers please.

So tell me. These pilots employed on a casual basis, do they receive a minimum of 2 hours flight pay for a four hour duty day or 4 hours flight pay for anything longer?

From the Pilot's GA Award....


13.2.1 A casual pilot will be paid per flying hour at the rate of 1/800 of the annual salary prescribed for the class of work performed (including additions to salary).

13.2.2 A casual pilot will be paid in addition to the amount in 13.2.1 an amount of 25 percent for each hour.

13.2.3 Casual pilots must be paid at the termination of each engagement, but may agree to be paid weekly or fortnightly.

13.2.4 On each occasion a casual pilot is required to attend work the pilot is entitled to minimum payment as follows;

13.2.4(a) for a tour of duty or stand by away from the airport up to four hours, a minimum of two hours pay; and

13.2.4(b) A tour of duty or stand by away from the airport exceeding four hours, a minimum of four hours pay.

13.2.5 For the purposes of calculation payment is to be calculated for each flying hour or part thereof.

I think the follwing reasons MAY have something to do with it:

1) Just in case the company does get suddenly busy, and I mean REALLY busy, they have the pilots available for that eventuality. It can change pretty quickly, too. Some weeks I've only flown 5 hrs, the next week over 20.

2) Trying to give as many a go as possible. I know it can be hard to see sometimes, but Chief Pilots do actually want to encourage pilots in their career endeavours. Even if you are only flying 5 hrs a week and are the company's "lacky band", at least you've got a foot in the door and will escalate once someone up the top leaves. The hours in the book can only go up, remember.

one simple reason:

Because they are willing to work for him!

And because casual pilots = direct operating costs
along with leased/x-hired acft = direct operating costs

can't blame him realy, he is just being a bottom line thinker ie. profit.

The people that fly for NAC can leave at anytime, I don't think anyone is holding a gun to their head.

If you don't like it, well work elsewhere.

SW might be watching with interest the latest NSW Trades and Labour Council court case on casual wages.

The push is for casual employees with more that 6 months continuous service with an employer to get the same protection and conditions as permanent part time staff.

Casual wages is another word for Ripoff in most cases.

This 'wonderful country' has the second largest percentage of the workforce in the "Casual" category in the western world.

That is a pisspoor statistic.

Ever heard of a 'Casual' doctor or lawyer? No, they have Locums and they make plenty of dough.

Another case of this 'profession' being populated by opportunists that will take on silly conditions to "gain experience."

Don't just blame the charter operators like SW. Point the finger at the pilots who accept the conditions. People like Geisha Girl who blissfully walk into these jobs, then after a few months, sledge the hell out of their once-esteemed employers. Not the first time you have done that on this forum, eh Geisha?

ICTV,How many operaters would still be here if they couldnt use casuals as they do now?Ans,Not many!!Then we would have less oputunitys to build hours.Get in,Get what you need and Get out,Thats How GA works.I remember a few years ago a mineral mine wasnt making any money soo they asked all the workers too help(pay cuts)The union said no way and pushed for a pay increase,soon the mines labor costs out worth the value of the mineral they were mineing soo now the mineral is still in the ground and the mine is CLOSED!Now everyone is out of work!!!

Casual wages - possibly the worst way to live a life.

Have had a number of fools try and convince me how they raked it in the dry. Wakey wakey come the 12 month and I'm off on paid holidays. Cheerio.

Not all operators pay casual in the NT. Some are by the book.

However, I've observed a few work places that are possibly the worst places I've ever seen. One (non aviation) got their employees to start early and work say 3 hrs then go home (living on site) and come back 5 hours later to do another 3 hrs. No over time nothing and worst of all nowhere to go in the 5 hours off. Felt sorry for the poor souls that worked there. At least I got the thrill of flying an aeroplane these people were wiping tables!Makes you wonder doesn't it.

Simple really, because they can, because they are cheap, because the donkeys all think they will be jet captains one day, because they are expendable, because they will accept crap conditions, because they'll stab their mates in the back for the first go on the "twin" (big breath) and, because they are too dumb to realise that they are being exploited and are ******ing the industry they (hope) to work in.:*

You are right, I am upset with the industry, my girly charm failed to work at NAC.

Perhaps you should use your skill and professionalism to get a job rather than girly charm.

A pretty face is an assett that you will not need to sell - people with eyes will see it. The best good looking girls are the ones that don't know they are good looking or at least pretend to not know.
