Air Chathams ??

What is going on at Air Chathams ?

I hear that they have taken over the Origin Metro Ops.
Are they also hireing all the Ex Origin Metro Crew ? Or new crew hired for Chats.

What happens at Chathams ? Do the new guys, or girls, go FO on the Metro then CV580 and back to the METRO for Command ? of does everybody do a bit of everything, subject to qualification

Gravox 23rd Jul 2003 07:03

I wouldn't have a clue what is happening there, but would also like to know.

I imagine that you would probably start on one type, and stay on that type be it metro or convair. Perhaps an upgrade to the Convair later.

The convair would be great to fly, or atleast I would like to have a go anyway. Old and conventional not many machines like that left any more.

BattleSTARGalatica 23rd Jul 2003 12:44

Air chats have been running a ground course starting this week. Anyone else hear anything whispers??

Captain Condom 23rd Jul 2003 12:45

Jeez guys, you're a bit out of date. Do a search on this forum for a previous thread about Origin.

Anyway, briefly, some of the Origin Metro crew have been moved onto the J31 out of Nelson (complete with pay cut). Some have stayed where they are and have moved to Air Chats. A few are staying with Origin but seconded to Air Chats to stay on the Metro for a few months. A few, unfortunately, have been offered neither.

As far as I know, no new recruitment at Air Chats as yet, although people will be moving in future. At the moment as I understand it, people are hired onto the Metro, then a case of wait and see. Some people are flying both types.

From my experience with them, a nice buch of people. You could do a lot worse if you were lucky enough to be offered something with them.

Wacco 23rd Jul 2003 19:57

That sounds like there is some movement, even if it is only sideways for some people out of origin.

How gutted would you be if you were on the Metro with Origin and got offered neither a 31 job or a position with Chats. ******.

What about AIR FREIGHT. What happens there ? Or is that a closed door, unless you know some people in high places.

(From my post on "Reporting Points/Air NZ no frills Tasman" Post re OP/AC.)

Bongos are that someone has bought some ex 'OZ B737-300's for NZ internal service.

A particular Dk Blue/ Grey coloured NZ carrier already has slots into/out of major cities, and has a bit of biffo with the "National" carrier...

@@@@@@@@@@

Makes one wonder if OP is getting out of the smallies and into biggies. Okay biggers. Like as in 737's domestically?!

VBNZ = ?

Chats can operate the commuter flights for them... A/Wk involved too?

:ooh:

zulu kilo 3rd Aug 2003 09:34

Various threads in other forums say as much. Airwork already operate 737 here, so why not get a couple more, paint them in origin colours and have a go at Uncle Helen.

Origin and Airwork already operate 737 for charter work. Just go to origin's website. I think alot more will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Wacco 3rd Aug 2003 11:18

I bet the AIRWORK guys wouldn't mind if they were involved with these 733's. I hear that there are a few of them with 73 ratings already, and are looking to move into uncle Koru, but finding it hard.

Vmo248 3rd Aug 2003 18:40

May be crap with a capital C, source a little dodge, but there are some ex Ansett Aus 733's that have been moved from whence they've sat for months, like they are being readied for "something"??!!

Can any Ozzie dudes help out with more?

New Hires

Heard today that Air Chats is starting two newbies from GA in the first week of Sept.

They were on the ground course run a week or two ago and one is based in Auckland, not sure about the other.

But definately 2 GA's, not ex-OP or the like. One I believe is from the Queenstown aera where I didn't think to much IFR work was done, so interesting if that was the case.

Congrats & Good luck chaps

The new Airowrk 733 is an ex-AN ship with an analogue flightdeck. It's parked up outside AirNZ in NZCH. There's also another F27 coming (ex-Switzerland and the second to last one of the line) and a Falcon 900 due soon.

Wacco,

I have a mate thats a captain on the Chats metro.

They are using ZK-CIC on the CH-AK-CH night freight run.

Off memory once posted on the Metro/ Convair flight crew are stuck there for a while, well thats what i've seen with my experience. Convair crew are usually based in CHT, while Metro crew are AKL based.

Hope it helps

Chats

FYI

Metro crew are based in both CHC and AKL, conviar crew are based in Nelson, Wellington, Chats and CHC. To get on the convair you have to do your time on the metro, and be a good B****d therefore not many get there. I reckon they are the best company to be with if you can. They are still recruiting, if you're a good b. give them a call.

BCF Breath 22nd Sep 2003 13:35

I think you'll find the 737 ex Ansett is for Airwork.
