How did you get out of G.A??

Come on guys let me know.Ive been in it for 5-6 years, seen too many ppl i know cleaned up in the last 12 mnths and really wanna recieve a liveable pay-check at the end of the week like most ppl.
being prepared to network and go overseas ...
did you up-date your c.v's oftern?Do 1-2-3 /5/6 I.F. renewals before getting lucky?. target just airlines or freight and executive jets as well.
or do you just sit happy waiting for excessive time and try when u know the 'one' company your aiming for is hiring?.putting all eggs in one basket?.

For a long time I had no intention of working for a major airline because I was really happy doing what I was doing in GA. I had done almost every job there was except fly turbo-props. I finally realized though that GA was not a long-term career for me if I wanted to raise a family. I spent 10 years in GA before even sending out my first resume.

I sent resumes to all the regional and majors that I could work for. I didn’t send one to Qantas, not because I didn’t want to work there, but because I didn’t have year 12 Physics. With most of them I updated my resume every month or so. I didn’t follow it religiously but I am a firm believer in the squeaky door gets the oil. It is a fine line though between being keen and being a pest. You will be the best judge of that. Some companies look at experience only and others also want to see how keen you are. You won’t get an interview if you don’t meet their minimum requirements. Before you are even asked for an interview try and find out as much of the interview process as you can. It is imperative that you are prepared. Most of all be patient and an interview will eventually come your way.

Good luck with your endeavors.

hmmm let me see.
Out of green baggy skin, CPL, MECIR, part time charter, regular part time charter, back into green baggy skin, more charter. Late night phone call "you wanna work in West Africa 2 on 1 off?" Well it aint flying but it's keeping me in a manner to which I'm rapidly becoming accustomed.

That's how I got out of GA. :D

Like 404 Titan and probably many others around here I spent 10 years in GA and loved every second of it:) .

I was fortunate enough to be employed by good companies and that certainly helped me enjoy it. Keep applying, study and remain sharp, stay positive and remember one day you will be in an Airline if that is what you want:ok: .

We all know the industry can be unfair and will get you down but that should make you even more determined and stronger than the others. You will get there eventually and I hope you have the great memories that I have of GA, who knows maybe you might even miss it;)

Safe flying, hoss:)

Whats the question again?

A fat 6+ years in GA now. I haven't actually left but work for the best GA company there is. Better pay and conditions than the smaller regionals :)

I no complain, but a 737NG does give one a bit of a horn ;)

Boomerang - who is that then? Do tell or give some decent clues:E

BongoDriver 15th Jul 2003 19:37

The best GA operator in Oz would be Skytrans methinks.

Pearl Aviation, IMHO.
