Aero com 690 costs?
Can anyone point me in the right direction or even help
Aero commanders. mainly the 690 Where can I find the stats for that, you know realistic cruise speed, fuel burn, range, payload etc..... What the going charter rate. Also some operating factors or costs. Does anyone know the rough price tag and if there are many is Aus?? I just got a client asking questions so I want to get a little info before looking like a complete Idiot. Thanks fella's |
Try GAM (general Aviation maintenance I think)
They run a whole fleet out of ADL, MEL & BNE. for daily mail runs. |
Is it true that GAM are operating a AC690 with the Dash 10 conversion?
What a rocket ship that would be. 300+ Knots and 1000shp a side. Asymetrics would be fun! |
Just stay away from any AC690's in the NY_ registration group. What a bunch of dogs - and that was 10 years ago!!

Takes my mind back to the early to mid nineties when two young guys lost them, one being Seaview VH-SVQ and the other VH-BSS a night freighter who went swimming on approach 10 miles off Sydney.

AD Dunny,
I used to know two of the drivers of BSS. Do you know who was flying it when it went down? Is there a safety report published somewhere on the web I could read? |
Just remember the reason you wont pay a lot of money for one relative to say a Conquest or King Air is because they cost a shedload more $s/km to operate and the payload/range/seating capacity isn't all that flash either.
And yes watch out for the Amman imports, "B" version at the least. What is the end use, private, charter, LCRPT? They are a good private machine for someone who has the dollars to keep it up to them. |
Cyclops,
A full report is available for download at www.atsb.gov.au complete with diagrams based on radr info. A very detailed report indeed. 88b |
Cyclops, sorry to hear that mate, no I didn't know the driver of BSS however I do know through an acquaintance he was only about 22-23 at the time, they are a bloody slippery aircraft for a young bloke. Follows 8/8'ths advise on ATSB.

GARRETT TPG331-10T-515K (Reciprocating)
A reciprocating turbine. Very interesting concept..... I wonder how they get the reciprocating bits to hang together at 40,000 RPM? I would suspect that any standard operating costs you get for a 690, you'd need to add 50% to 100% to represent real costs. What happened to all the G1000's DCA/CAA/CASA had. Did they all end up back in the USA? |
BIK
No, not sure at all actually. Just heard the specs from a colleague. I'm sure your data is more accurate.
Strange the Engine info on the CASA register. Cheers |
Turbo Commander, what a wonderful machine. I recently flew with the old man who was Northrop Gumman's chief pilot, and he was the one that filmed Bob Hoover's barrell roll with a jug of water. I still remember my days in Ultimo watching that.
I knew the pilot of SVQ extremely well (PS) and was waiting at SYD for BSS when it crashed. Cyclops camel, PM me, we can talk about it. As for the aircraft, my 747 is no where near as satisfying professionally. And, I am sick of pilots, that I really do think are better then me, passing on. Ernest Ghan articulates it better than me. |
My experience with Turbo Commanders dates from over 20 years ago. Used to fly a 690 B s/n 11414. From memory Tas 260 Kts burning about 450 lbs/hr. in cruise between Fl 200-240. Exceptional rates of climb down low, the first 10,000 ft. in about 3 minutes, stable a/c, good handling. The only downside was refuelling, with a wing full of bladder tanks it took forever to fill it up .

Thanks guys, those sites are helping me.
Three more questions. 1 When does the Spar thingy have to be done, and what a rough price. They say it's a big job but if you get a machine cheap enough with out it, would it be worth while? 2 Engine TBO, and what's an over haul cost, roughly? 3. What's the main difference between the 680, 690, 800, 900, 1000 model etc. I see one is a 900 upgraded to a 1000. Thanks fellas, gaunty.. It's for charter/contract work. WHat the "b" model you mention |
Torres,
Where I am at the Moment the local authorities have detained a Turbo Commander afte it report a radio failure and landed at an uncontrolled Airport when the authorities arrived there was nobody to be found. Empty Aircraft was swabbed for residue nothing found inside. The Aircraft rests there still its a shame. It will probabaly go to waste. As all impounded Aircraft caught outside the USA. The Aircraft was using "N" registration, but it has Columbian Rego even a flag on the side. Wierd how this world works. At Montego Bay there a B95 rotting aswell and an Aztec and C150 at Ocho Rios.:uhoh:  Food for thought |
