Which University

Without getting into a discussion on the merits of an aviation degree, which is all my search revealed, can anyone tell me of any undergraduate degrees that give credit for an ATPL and industry experience other than UWS.

I am aware of many AV courses at various unis around OZ, however it is difficult to determine which of those cover the above case.

If anyone has any information or is currently studying could you please pass on the relevant website info. etc, many thanks.

try Griffith.

have you considered the Masters program (Master of Aviation Management) there? You don't necessarily require an undergraduate degree, and depending upon your experience you may find that you can gain a spot.

Course is also shorter.

good luck....

gday willie,

try University of South Australia, I'm pretty sure you can get credit for some of the subjects in their BASc (Civil Aviation). Things may have changed though.

good luck

Aviation Degree's
Griffith Uni
Uni Western Sydney
Uni NSW
Uni SA
Swinburne Uni

Aviation Managment Degree's
Swinburne Uni
Uni NSW

I know that Swinburne and UWS offer exemptions/credits for students already holding their ATPL however not sure about industry experience. This may only help you get into a Post Grad course without having a degree already.

Cheers,

I am not sold on the benefits of a Masters program. Being realistic I thing it would be a little beyond my capabilities as well as overkill and overpriced (AUS$18,000 for one reputable online course)

There is no shortage on universities offering Masters programs, thanks all the same though it is something I did consider. I'll look into the other Uni's suggested and see what they have to tell me.

WN,

I am pretty sure Edith Cowan University in Perth give you credits for your ATPL and experience. The last I heard you went straight to third year (final year) of the degree. We had Skywest and Skippers Aviation pilots while we were studying. Not a bad course, would be better if we did our ATPL's through or with our degree.:D

The Griffith masters course is $8800 AUD before you take your 15% rebate from the tax office for pre-payment and the tax deduction.

I reckon it is a better bet than a undergraduate degree, and the course work doesn't seem to bad thus far.

I'll throw in a plug for my alma mater UNSW:

UNSW Aviation

Industry experience is recognised at both the undergraduate and masters level and is the only one of Australia's "Great Eight" universities to offer aviation courses.

Whilst on a semi-related topic, noticed John Faulkner (UNSW lecturer and former QF pilot and manager of Flight Safety) was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday Awards "For service to the aviation industry, particularly in relation to air safety, and as a contributor to tertiary education programs". Good stuff!

Query:

Distance learning related to the above incl Masters. Specifically internet with no attendance requirement?

Anyone?

Willie Nelson 12th Jun 2003 08:44

Capt Snooze,

The $18,000 dollar masters program that I was talking about from the UNSW, is based completely online. It was some years ago that I inquired about it so I am sure some things would have changed since then, including the price. From what I remember there was some sort of student assistance hotline but no requirement to attend classes.

Golf Captain,

I wasn't aware of Edith Cowan offering a course, I'll look into it.

Cheers
