Anyone with old NZ VFR charts gathering dust?

Hi folks,

On the offchance....

Does anyone have old VFR charts (last year or two) for NZ they're willing to send to a chap in the UK (obviously I'm happy to pay postage and some compensation for your trouble)?

I'm trying to get hold of, I guess, the four 1:500,000 topographical charts from Aviation Publishing Ltd. that cover North and South but am having problems with their website... None of the UK/Euro suppliers I've tried seem to stock a similar-scale equivalent.

Am trying to formulate a rough plan for a trip in October-November this year, and will be acquiring current charts in September, when I believe they're published.

Any recommendations of friendly schools around Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch also appreciated. I'm hoping to do some solo trip hire, so if you've any idea on minimum requirements (single engined), good routes or any other advice that'd also be useful. Currently c.160hrs Canadian PPL with night, multi, some previous mountain cross country experience in the USA and Canada. I've noted previous advice from this forum on license conversion issues, cheers!

Thanks for any responses,

SSS

Get the new ones!

Hi, you can buy the latest ones direct online (see here

The visual flight planning chart is NZ$12 I think, and each of the area charts are also $12 (or four pounds in UK dosh!) There are 10 that cover the whole country. They were just updated on 20th March, so should be valid when you get here.

Our club has a nice C172 which is NZ$155 solo wet, but I don't think they'd want it going away for a long time. There are places down near Masterton that seem to have good rates. The Ardmore fleet seems all shiney and nice, but bet it is costly.

I'd recommend seeing Mt Ruapehu, White Island, a trip down to Gisborne, then Hawkes Bay. Send me a pm if you need more info.

Thanks for the replies chaps, much appreciated.

Col. Blink - thanks for the suggestions and the link to airways.co.nz - their entire site works fine for me except the orders page, which I can't get to for love nor money. I've contacted them about this and am awaiting a reply....

Cheers, looking forward to October!
