Alice Springs Info

Any Info Please...

Can anyone offer any information or advice regarding Alice Springs GA, I am in the situation of looking for work and would like some insight into the situation at Alice Springs. Is it worthwhile going to Alice Springs as one of the places to check out "up north"?

What companies are based at Alice?
What is the general experience requirement?
What type of work do they do?...
Aircraft types?
Web addressses if available (so i can find out for myself)
...etc

I have around 400 hours TT, NVFR, Multi IFR.

One more question... Is it better to ring first and arrange a time to meet the chief pilot, or just turn up to enquire about employment?

Any help greatly appreciated

The best resource I had when looking for work were a few Yellow Pages for different ares and states etc. These days all you need to do is look-up yellowpages.com.au and do a search on what you are looking for. There is a wealth of info for anyone trying to get a picture of what the industry is like in any one location.

Hope that helps.

Drop in

Hi Sum

Definately drop in. It is only fair that operator at least see you before letting you blast off in a 210 or whatever... I knpw that NAC have a base there but operate HQ out of Darwin. Might be worth a look but with low hours I suggest going bush communities

I don't have any current info on which companies are in Alice anymore but when I was there it was definately the sort of place to 'show up', similar to places in the north or WA, however people still had to hang around for a bit before getting a job.
Good Luck.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chances?..... good with those sort of hours.

Better with MECIR.

Even better with cabin class twin time (Pa-31, C402, etc).

Companies? Northern Air Charter (C210, C310, B58, Pa-31).

Chartair. (C210, B55/8, C402 etc, Gottem - help me out here....! )

Wrightsair. (C182RG, C207, C210, Pa-31 and are looking for a Baron), Psst, Trevor might be looking......

Murray Cosson. (Lance, Cherokee 6, heard rumour of a C340 and/or a C210/206 - I guess they don't like getting left behind in the air..... )

Alice Springs Aero Club if you're an instructor type of person.

I dare say all of us are in the phone book.

Where this info came from...

etc etc.....

I've heard that some people "up there" smell funny..... :p

hehehehe!

Get your arse up here get a job in town and come out too the airport.Make sure you have a current CV .If you are lucky enought to catch the chief you probaly will get some of his time.Get out in town and meet people youl probaly meet someone who knows someone and the ball starts rolling. The hard thing is not too be like the flys at the airport at the moment, annoying!Dont come out every day.good luck.
Ps hey ops might have to have a autum pool party,The pics of the last one makes HAs fishing trip pics look like a tea party

OpsNormal 6th Mar 2003 13:59

Murray Cossen does mainly scenic stuff to the rock but alot of guys get starts there. Not sure how he's going these days

Chartair need about 700TT They have a several twins but I don't think people get progression. Would be good for twin work since Alice Air Charter got shut down

Aboriginal Air run C208's, PC12, C210, P210. All in A1 condition. Good place to start but NO TWINS and from what I've heard no ones cares about van time. Dunno what their minimums are. Guess C208 time would help

Aero Club does a bit of instructing and has a 210 & a Navajo dunno if they have minimums

NAC has 2 210's and a couple of twins everyone is casual and they didn't appear to do alot of work

RFDS- 3 PC-12's Amazingly busy. Need a billion hours. PC 12 time advantageous

Pearl run 2 King Airs & 2 Metros maybe more. Need 500 multi would be a great job. Mainly weekdays seems pretty cruizy

To get a gig you would need to hang around a bit. There are plenty of hospitality jobs and supermarket kinda stuff going around. If you have some decent time you would may get a gig from your current place of abode without hanging around

Turbluence is painful and the summer is very HOT. Very little IFR weather but when you do get some clouds you earn your money. ILS's down to 300-400 feet wouldn't be unusual. However may only occur once a year :( Also when it rains it is very wide spread and alot of the strips go out thus u can't always go flying!!

The sectors were usually very long so you got some serious hours when you were flying however it is very choppy in the summer!!!
