Malaysian Flying Academy

A friend of mine has just applied for a position with this company in Malaysia. He is interested to know what these guys are like to work for i.e pay, conditions, workplace environment etc etc. Also, what is the progression like onto the twins for Multi Engine instructing. He is currently in Australia and would like to know more before he commits. Any advice from ex employees etc would be appreciated.

Is that the school at Langkawi?

Have just been over to MFA.

Nope, not Langkawi, it's in Malacca..

They want 500 hours instructing min..

If I remember correctly, the pay wasn't too bad, starting from about $2000 Ringgit a month. An indication, you eat where the locals eat, you can get breakfast for $1 RM. Rent is about $800-$1000 a month for a apartment.

Workplace environment was pretty good, top notch buildings and grounds. Aircraft looked pretty good, Seneca IIIs and Piper Warrior IIs.
I know of 2 NZ instructors working there presently

Most students are Malaysian Airlines cadets, with some privately funded.

I'm not sure about progression onto twins. I only had a brief meeting with the GM of the place...

Conditions aren't too bad up there, but mind you, I'm half Malaysian, so felt just like home :)
Just the humidity takes some getting used to...
