Heard in VicPol com center:
"Which @#$$% cop just used that Droneshield DroneGun?"
NO, NO investigation is to be undertaken - leave it to the drone operator company.
****, ****, ****, jeez if this gets out we're toast, etc............

Sometimes on here it is hard to know the rumour from the facts isn't it???

Perth has also managed to deliver numerous drone displays over the last few years without dunking them in the river. Melbourne can be special sometimes.

I think you should check your facts.

I stand corrected, however Melbourne did manage to dunk the whole cohort from the sound of it, not just 10% of them. I wonder how much insurance cover you get for these things.

43 inches has to stand corrected again-

From the ABC - The Australian Traffic Network [ATN], which owns and operates the drones, said 500 of them took off but as many as 350 of those failed to return.

I sincerely apologize to all drones that may have been affected by my statement, regardless off their pronoun, religious belief or ethnicity. To all the drones that did not fall into the water I say sorry and my condolences to those that have lost loved ones. To the family of the drones that fell to a watery grave I say sorry, my words may have been hurtful. All surviving drones are welcome to swing around to chat over a beer, as I'm always looking for an excuse to drink, I have a swimming pool if they need a dip, or fish pond for the more adventurous.

Why adventurous 43, you got piranha in there?

What kind of drones do they use for these displays?

That’s easily disproved.

Were the Melbourne drones different to the Sydney drones? Apart from the fact they didn’t stop for a drink halfway through the display.

TWT 17th Jul 2023 11:47

The ones that disappeared in Melbourne were originally from Sydney.

They decided to go home and migrated mid-performance.

Performing in front of the Harbour Bridge or the upside down Yarra River, hmmm tough choice :)

( P.S. not a New South Welshman or Victorian but have lived in Sydney for 20 years and Melbourne for the last 20 :))

Melbourne is ALWAYS SPECIAL! "Retard"....Never go full RETARD!

CASA failing in its duty of care to make sure the drones met all the required commercial redundancy standards, maybe they should be fined (CASA) with strict liability clauses for being a danger to the public? Is there any regulation for multiple drone displays around the public? Image if the runaways all descended into a crowd, would the regulator be to blame?

sheepless 18th Jul 2023 05:30

Watched a large number fall out of the sky in Perth last November. Dare I say it but I think we found watching the failures more fun than the display..

43Inches 18th Jul 2023 06:27

Correct me if I'm wrong again, I don't think the drones 'fell' from the sky, more so lost connection and went into automatic land mode, which is the safety feature if they don't know what else to do, or run low on battery. Unfortunately for the drones in Perth and Melbourne they were over water at the time. I doubt drone displays directly over crowds would be allowed anyway, in the same manner fireworks are not. So I do not think there is much of a safety issue at play.

Drones too hard for Victoria

Certainly no aeronauthical safety issue as the results proved.
Just an organisational one; Victoria could not run a simple drone display so has given up on the slightly more complex Commonwealth Games.

Kudos for giving up waste of money com games, if it was such a good thing how come none of the other states aren't going to take them over? :8
You're saying it's the state gov that regulates drones in Vic and not CASA?
