Lake Eyre aircraft down

Something going on over Lake Eyre as we speak. Hearing rumors of an aircraft down.

lucille 17th May 2022 05:02

Plenty of excellent forced landing areas, so probably a non event.

To avoid confusion UCX is flying according to FR

Squawk7700 17th May 2022 06:04

UCX appears to be looking for/at another aircraft…

You might need floats right now

FR24 playback showing VH-EIY departing William Creek toward Lake Eyre and descending. Unsure if this is who they are looking for, or if this was the first aircraft to start searching for someone else.

(Won’t let me post link or screenshot due to insufficient posts)

Chopper enroute and looks like 2 RFDS inbound to William Ck

There have been very, very few safe forced landing areas on or near the lake, for quite a few decades. Not a good place to try to ‘alight’, even for an amphibian: https://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/20...-fails/6380664

It takes a few decades for the lake to dry to ‘airstrip hardness’.

AmarokGTI 17th May 2022 08:56

ABC News reporting Cessna 172, 4 POB, no injuries. Police enroute. Reported to ATSB. Still don’t have enough posts to provide a link.

Kathryn's Report: Dr. Chen Au Peh gets food poisoning, bogs plane in Lake Eyre and then walks 70km to safety

And GA-8 WRA on 3 May 2013. Photo and interesting story here.

Kundry 19th May 2022 05:12

Food poisoning ie he really needed to dump a load and couldn't focus on flying the plane?

aroa 19th May 2022 06:09

Great photo story re WRA. Thanks Leady.

Pretty impressive in this day and age, that not a single photo, video clip etc of the aircraft parked out bush, has escaped into the wild. Anyone know, has it been recovered yet?

Apropos Medicals, first there was the sleep test, then there was the wakefulness test. Could there be an involuntary sphincter causing incapacitation test next?

Anything to keep pilots out of the air and our skies safe.

lucille 21st May 2022 11:48

Involuntary sphincter? Now, in some circles that may well be greeted with much enthusiasm.

Truly remarkable!

Someone at Wrighsair must have some more details of the incident.
