The return of Air Racing in AUST.

Would anyone loan me an MXS or Edge 540? I um, need it to go to church on that weekend.

CAsA will kill it after taking 6 months to even look at any application, then some 'FOI' or whatever they are called now, will piss all over it for a further 6+ months re-inventing the wheel.

I dread to think what CASA would charge the applicant (organiser) for a single approval for these types of activities.

The organisation planning this certainly aren’t amateurs in the business, probably one of the best more like it. Case of self regulation in this case would be more appropriate in my opinion, let the pro’s manage it, not the incompetent regulator (and don’t mean that in a bad way) - I can guarantee that CASA don’t have a competent (current) FOI within the organisation who is current in low level formation flying through the CASA FCAT program, FOI re-currency training paid by the tax payer.

Runaway Gun 16th Apr 2022 04:52

What do you mean by ‘Formation flying’?

Duck Pilot 16th Apr 2022 05:30

Two aircraft flying close to one another and less than what ever the minimum separation distances are in Part 91 these days.

I doubt that Part 91 would allow for low level air racing in high performance aircraft without an expensive CASA approval. If not, let me know and I’ll get a few mates together and get stuck into it like horse racing! I’ll get betting mobs and the TV stations involved that will immediately give me a ticket to retirement 😀

Now that would be an aviation success story👍👍👍

You know they don’t physically race each other side by side right? :hmm:

Sbaker 16th Apr 2022 20:46

Would anyone be interested in a <100HP class?

Could be fun to 'race' some C150's around. I imagine the high wing could be an issue in the turns and visibility however....

RAA races could be cheap and easy to get involved in - and FUN... :-)

Amazing location, flying over that part of the world is spectacular. And there's some great pubs close to some of the best beaches around.

Morno-
They do in the US, we did in the UK in the 70’s. Lots of sensible waivers and exemptions. Great fun, getting 240+ mph out of “stock” O-200 engines. Look up “Cosmic Wind”

Do you know what RPM they are doing and what the TBO is??

FL235 17th Apr 2022 03:27

Yesss - note what I said about waivers and. Exemptions. These are not certified engines, and a blueprinted o-200 seems quite happy at 3000rpm, some maybe a bit more. As for TBO - one race meeting to. The next? But some turned in reasonable lives.
