Women and men of Aviation.
Recently I had more than a tear in my eye to say goodbye to a friend, I was his training captain onto the humble Twin Otter.
My ex wife used to knit jumpers for his children.
I have known for a very long time I have to pass my knowledge on,
I have held a propellor from the Southern Cross in my hands.
So for all you budding young aviators, you can ask me anything and I will answer to the best of my ability.


I have more than 32000 hours and adore flying, so lets start there

Did it have two blades or three?

When can I log ICUS?

If the bulb in the landing light of my aircraft is blown, do I have to endorse the maintenance release "aircraft unairworthy"?

Why do I have to report the ATIS letter I've copied as well as read back the QNH broadcast as part of the ATIS?

Where is MH-370?

I understand where you are coming from baylover but as you have already seen your experience means nothing to those who have not gone through what you have. D@#$ed ppls who have law degrees and smart arse attitudes think its ok to just mock someone who has carved out a career and taught many others the art of flying. Can I respectfully suggest that you might like to post some of the the things that you would like to pass on to the younger generation. I wish you well.

Better off haunting the local aeroclub and getting in on mentoring programs, then your advice will be taken more seriously.

My question was serious. The Southern Cross had a three-bladed prop on the centre engine when it was retired. It now has two-bladed wooden props on all three engines and I have often wondered what happened to the three-blader.

I think a great majority of pilots enjoy learning, and most realise that process continues until the day you hang up the headset for the last time. Regular readers here benefit from the experiences of people such as Centaurus and a number of others.

Perhaps you could recount some of your experiences could be recounted here for the education and enjoyment of all.

To Baylover, I’m sure you have a huge amount of wisdom to pass on to pilots of all experience levels & I think chimbu warrior has hit the nail on the head with his post.

Be careful VH-MLE, when you have a crack at any pilot about such things there's an expectation that you've never ****** up or won't in the future. Good luck from here :)

Over your flying life you would have some fascinating and educational stories to relate.
Do tell. You may have read some of those from Centaurus.
Those anecdotes is what gets people in. Chimbu W is right

baylover, I can only endorse the advice given by others, take up the suggestion and relate your war stories here, as does Centaurus (where is he by the way?). Give yourself free rein as to subject matter, some of us don't know enough to be able to ask a sensible question. ;)

I did get the sense that you've never ****** up, and that I could learn a lot from you, but I just couldn't help the smartarse comment.

We learn by doing. And in our flying we all organise some scary and educational do s for ourselves.
And with a smile from Lady Luck there too.
If others know… maybe they won’t go there .
We can also learn from others . Hence the following of the old Crash Comics and Centaurus fab stories.
