PA-31 Check lists

Would anyone have a Word or PDF file of PA-31-350 Check Lists?

Kindly don't reply unless you actually have this.

Really? Want someone to generate one for you? If you are serious, why not make one that is compliant with the POH? Geez

megan 18th Oct 2021 14:09

Have the flight manual on the book shelf, but as the checklists are not in PDF or Word format I won't reply. Damn, just did.

KRviator 18th Oct 2021 22:30

What if I have it but don't want to share? Does that enable me to reply?

Checkboard 18th Oct 2021 22:49

I have the paper manual.

I spent the last 48 hours scanning it to PDF, just so I could reply and tell you to buy it, like I did.

I made my first PA-31 checklist from the Piper POH, can't go wrong using what they advise, add whatever you want extra you think is good. The only PDF checklists I have are propriety property to certain companies and fit in with their operational philosophy, ie some things were done differently because we did maintenance differently, two crew operations, so on. Things like leaning procedure, cool down procedure, power settings for climb, cruise descent all might be linked to certain monitoring we had so not a good idea to transpose to your own flying without the big picture. The POH is designed for the basic airplane operated by the simple user.

Mind you, when I flew it, TMPFISCH and BUMPFOH worked as well as anything. If you've had a decent intro to the aircraft, and you know that the oil dipsticks have levels printed on two sides, and you can work the levers to crossfeed fuel without a mistake ... then it's just a piston twin.

Since I had no idea about that, what is the reason for double-sided dipsticks? Cold oil & hot? Our diesel engines at work have double-sided but that's for Engine Running vs Engine Stopped. You aren't going to be checking the oil on Chieftain with it running...I hope...

Office Update 18th Oct 2021 23:42

On a Chieftain its the C/R engines and the angle the engines are canted at .....................
They are not mounted the same .....

It's so the same dipstick can be used in either engine. That way only one dipstick had to be manufactured for the aircraft.
It's all about the angle the engines are at when mounted on the wing as opposed to say the Aztec where the engines are mounted level.
Direction of rotation has nothing to do with it. If I remember correctly the Seneca is the same, that's the original Seneca not the Seneca II and above.

You learn something every day.

This should be included on PA31-350 checklists!

It's OK, I have this, so I can reply, but as you are in the northern hemisphere and I am south, the checks will be incompatible because the fuel and oil go down their respective pipes in the opposite directions. Coriolis, y'know. And the dipsticks are calibrated from the top to the bottom, because the aircraft is inverted.

Pinky the pilot 19th Oct 2021 09:49

Like Megan, I have the checklist in printed and also laminated form, courtesy of my last Employer the Late TK, but not in pdf form, so I won't reply either.

Hang on....

eckhard 19th Oct 2021 13:01

On the PA-44 Seminole, the dipsticks are individually marked for either left or right engine, due to dihedral as others have mentioned.

From a request for a PA-31 checklist to a discussion on dipsticks on a PA-44 Seminole in just 12 short posts - well done on the ThreadDrift, PPruners.

Checkboard, your first post is gold. Well played, sir!

For the purposes of accuracy, yes, I have a PA-31 checklist. Can I recommend you check in the aircraft you are flying for the POH, and create your own from there?

Mach1Muppet 21st Oct 2021 01:17

Didn't all PA31 use to require their own unique checklist circa 2009? or am I remembering things very incorrectly?

M1 and of course for commercial ops approved by casa along with the extended check list and the ops manual updated with same

Well done fellow Ppruners! :D Once again, the (once) typical Aussie humour displayed.:ok:
Thought it had disappeared.

SCPL_1988; Got the hint yet?:=

KRviator 21st Oct 2021 20:53

And a thank you to OU and PF for edcumacating me (and the others who didn't know) why there would be two different sides on the dipsticks for what is essentially the same engine on the same airframe. Much appreciate it.. Although it's blindingly obvious when you think about it after the fact! :ouch:

And some thought that we were losing interest, it just needs the right topic!
