CASA Management Appointments

Looks like the Minister hit rock bottom and kept digging:

Air Ace 24th Apr 2021 05:57

I'd follow the new appointees anywhere, but only out of idle curiosity.

Ascend Charlie 24th Apr 2021 07:10

Never heard of Ms Spence, but Binny is a worthy appointee.

Lead Balloon 24th Apr 2021 07:31

Pip is a highly-intelligent, hard-working and lovely person. It will be awful watching her being eaten alive.

(Who was that retired Air Vice-Marshal thrown to the Airservices wolves? I recall watching a parliamentary hearing at which she sat in the middle of her executive ‘team’ at the witness table, being questioned by Senators. One end of the table was giving a different story than the other end, and she sat in the middle doing an impression of a rabbit caught in the spotlight. It was evident that none of her ‘team’ cared a single iota about her being left exposed and embarrassed. Tough way to learn that the RAAF’s version of ‘teamwork’ ain’t the same in a pretend GBE,)

AVM Margaret Staib.

I hope she doesn't buy Cartier watches for the execs if they do a good job. Lets hope she also has the iron core of Margaret Thatcher if she is to survive.

Checklist Charlie 24th Apr 2021 10:12

I thought Binny had more sense.

Lead Balloon 24th Apr 2021 10:50

Staib - That was the name. I hope she survived with her sense of humour in tact.

Binny’s been smart enough to avoid the CEO / DAS gig. Skates - no so. (Was that Binny flying the RV over Blamey Square at early o’clock on 31 March?)

dysslexicgod 24th Apr 2021 12:33

Promising combination. Sounds to me like CASA senior management might want to "consider their options". For added fun, make senior staff reapply for jobs in a new corporate structure. The test will be what happens to Aleck and his minions.

aroa 24th Apr 2021 23:56

Smart Aleck will protect his minions, and himself by producing a 10 page “thesis”, heavily sown with wanko words and bs theories. With a few lies dressed up as wording discrepancies.!
Unless the newbies take it all with a pinch of..., note that his marble bag is empty and send him on his evil way, then nothing will change.

And it’s not only in the head office that some cleaning fluid needs to be splashed around.
Regional offices have their perks and outright racketeering....absolute setups for corruption.

But with the failed state of CAsA being its own “self governing” corporate Soviet so entrenched, who the hell can sort the 40 decades mess out...once and for all.

In the bureaucratic scheme of things, is it even possible.?

Lead Balloon 25th Apr 2021 01:52

Jonathan Aleck can’t go. He’s the only person on the planet who understands the Australian regulatory regime.

Mr Approach 25th Apr 2021 02:15

An economist and a fighter pilot in charge of civil aviation safety - what could possibly go wrong?

outnabout 26th Apr 2021 23:46

An economist and a fighter pilot in charge of civil aviation safety....God help us all.

The questions that should be asked as part of the employment interview:

Have you ever run a business, or have you only been employed by the government in some capacity?
Have you ever seen / flown in / flown a piston engine aircraft?
Have you ever been self employed?

I doubt that anyone who has gone from the military to the airlines to CASA has the first clue about GA - and this has been proven to me on more than one occasion. Prepare to see more nails in the coffin that is GA, as every step is taken to regulate GA out of existence.

Lead Balloon 27th Apr 2021 01:12

I think you’re doing the new Chair a disservice, outanabout. He has considerable GA experience. Google will enlighten you. (I reckon he’ll have some conflicts of interest to declare and manage. Hope he’s clued up on the PGPA stuff.)

And hopefully a hard-nosed economist will see through the ‘mystique of aviation’ and require proper cost and risk analyses of regulatory requirements.

outnabout 27th Apr 2021 01:51

Lead Balloon, I have Googled.
I see no mention of GA.
I see plenty of mention of military, and (I suspect) warbirds.
I do not think involvement with the debacle that is the NBN roll out qualifies anyone to be in charge of a cake stall, much less Civil Aviation.CM Binksin served as Chief of the Air Force from 2008-11, then as Chief of Defence Force from 2014-2018, after which he retired from the RAAF.

Binksin began his defence career in the Royal Australian Navy as a Skyhawk pilot and was qualified on Mirages via an exchange with the air force. After the Navy disbanded its fixed-wing capability, he transferred to the RAAF full time, later serving as CO 77 SQN at Williamtown and Air Commander Australia. Binskin also held senior command positions during operations in Iraq.

Binskin is a member of the Temora Historic Flight Club and owns an O-1 Birddog and an amateur-built F-1 Rocket.
Spence held the role of Deputy Secretary at Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development, with responsibilities that included aviation and airports, transport policy and portfolio research. Previously, Spence worked for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, was closely involved with the NBN roll-out and served as aviation advisor to the Minister for Transport.

Lead Balloon 27th Apr 2021 01:59

We shall see what we shall see. (I should note that I think the CASA Board contributes nothing useful and should be abolished - again.)

glenb 27th Apr 2021 08:25

DAS appointment

The current Acting Ceo, Mr Crawford told Senator McDonald that he was a candidate for the top job.

Mr McCormack and Mr Mathews made a different decision.

One can only hope it’s a clear message that the Senior Executive are being exposed.

Will be interesting to see if the new DAS and Chair have the skill to cut with a surgeons knife.

machtuk 27th Apr 2021 11:09

Remember in the asylum called CASA it's all about safety that word that is a clone of the golden goose! Once these new clowns get a taste they'll no doubt continue the illusion of authority for our own 'safe' good.......essentially aviation at the GA level is doomed!
