Amber Aviation - Essendon AUS - Are they OK? FB Page dead since Dec 2019

Anyone know what the status is with Amber Aviation Academy at Essendon airport, outside Melbourne, AUS?
They had a fairly active FB page until the end of December 2019, and since then - not a single post. That's usually not a good sign.
I was going to refer a friend to them but wanted to know what's going on before I do that.
Any input appreciated thanks.

(I would have put their website and FB page links in this post but I'm never sure if that's allowed or not.)

I think I remember reading that the previous Amber Aviation CFI was the drug smuggling pilot (VH-TSI) currently locked up in Port Moresby. (Apologies if I got it wrong...)

FlyFloats 27th Oct 2020 16:28

Wow. Was that David John Cutmore?
He was named in this article about the event - https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/...ng-crash-named

But I'm really trying to find out if Amber Aviation is still operating. Their Instagram page was last active in 2016, and as I mentioned above their FB page went dead at the end of December 2019. Doesn't look right to me. Would be good to get some feedback from a student or CFI who was there recently.

I find it interesting that your only posts on pprune under this username have been about flying schools that are closed or are closing.

Unfortunately you are way off the mark with this one. Do some more research and don’t rely on Facebook! Have you found their website?

FlyFloats 27th Oct 2020 20:31

Oh geeze, here we go.
Not sure what my past posts have anything to do with this. I post on this forum only when I'm trying to find out information about things in that part of the world, or have something relevant to share, and that's all I'm here for.
And YOU are "Way off the mark" if you think I'm insinuating anything negative about the company. I'm asking for feedback from someone who knows how the company is doing and if they're still actively training students, and if so roughly how many, and that's all.
Yes I found their website, but with no "News" page there's nothing on their website that says anything about their current status, everything there could have been created 5 years ago for all I know.
And if a company maintains an active FB page, and then suddenly stops all activity on it for 8 months, they should know that visitors are going to sense that something is wrong.

Try giving them a PHONE CALL maybe?

Climb150 28th Oct 2020 01:00

I know a few very successful businesses that put very little effort into their FB pages. It is usually because the person tasked with doing it moves on or doesn't really care.

The company I work for now doesn't even have a FB page and we have 2000 employees.

717tech 28th Oct 2020 03:13

Does their website have a phone number? Could always give them a buzz??

TOUCH-AND-GO 28th Oct 2020 05:05

Yes, they're still operating.

FlyFloats 28th Oct 2020 14:58

@TOUCH-AND-GO - Thank you! At least you now told me something related to what I wanted to know.
Everybody else above didn't get it.
I mean do they seriously think that if I called the company and asked them -
"Hey, I see your FB page went dead 8 months ago, and your Chief Pilot is sitting in jail in Papua New guinea for drug smuggling, so are you guys still in business, and is everything going OK?" ... that I would get a truthful answer? Please.
That's the whole reason why I came HERE, to try to find someone who knew the inside story and was prepared to tell me what's REALLY is going on with Amber.
But maybe I should have posted my question in the "rumors" section.

So you just wanted to know if they were still operating? Well if someone picks up the phone when you call their office that would have been a good indicator of them still being in business.

You would recommend a friend to them when obviously you never attended the school yourself? You were just going to look at a FB page and base your recommendation on that? Great friend you are.

You just don't get it, do you?

:ugh:

Office Update 29th Oct 2020 22:08

Climb 150,
don't worry; flyfloats can't tell the difference between CP and CFI........:ugh:

No I get it. As usual someone comes into an internet forum expecting instant gratification from people willing to share intricate knowledge of Amber Aviation and their current business status.

Instead of getting a detailed synopsis of the current situation you got a few smart remarks about relying on Facebook for info and maybe you should call them?

Now you are all butt hurt about not getting what you want.

machtuk 30th Oct 2020 01:26

Well for the rest of us who don't know and or don't care this is at least entertaining, as is a lot of Prooon threads-)

Capt Fathom 30th Oct 2020 01:29

Why are some on here so antsy?

The OP asked a pretty simple question.
If you know how Amber are going, just say so. If you don't know, then there is no reason to comment!

When people say they use FB to make decisions it's open season:O

mcoates 30th Oct 2020 05:18

Every fright school (Halloween joke) needs to have a CFI overseeing their operations and flight training. The simple way could be to ring up and ask them who their current CFI is and getting his contact details. Give him a call and get the information first-hand, this is not rocket science.

Ixixly 30th Oct 2020 10:22

Why ask the internet instead of calling? Because often there are people in the know willing to tell the truth about what's really happening, often you get front line staff who aren't willing to admit how poorly things are actually going and even MORE often you get front line staff who are completely in the dark about how poorly things might be going in the background. A company that has been posting a lot on FB for a while and then suddenly stops is a red flag, it doesn't mean they're going tits up but it's a red flag still that something may have changed and combined with some info about one of their Management being possibly in the clinker is another red flag that warrants some investigation. FlyFloats may have used them not that long ago or maybe doesn't know them from a bar of soap, who cares! Either way they wanted to check not only if Amber were operating which is really all a phone call would tell them but if those red flags were something to really worry about or not so they asked here just in case there was someone in the know. Really not that difficult to understand people and I really don't understand the attitude of you mob sometimes, if Pilots can't support Pilots what bloody hope have any of us got?
