A woman has been airlifted to hospital after the light plane she was in lost power and crashed nose-first during a local flight in the Banana region. Two rescue helicopters from RACQ Lifeflight were called the scene near the Leichhardt Highway in Isla around 5:45pm on Sunday night. The woman in her 60s had sustained serious head and leg injuries. An RACQ Lifeflight spokesperson said "due to the accident scene being difficult to access by helicopter, paramedics drove the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and LifeFlight Paramedic closer to the crash site, while the pilot hovered above to guide them". A woman in her 60s was flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a serious condition, a man in his 60s declined transport to hospital. |
