Something interesting maybe?

Noted in the classifieds of the South Australian Advertiser Newspaper today, Friday 7th.

Cessna 402A VH-RDZ
To be sold by auction 'as is' to satisfy
a Court Order.

Saturday 8 August 2020 at 12 noon
Parafield Airport SA

Remainder of ad includes name and contact number of Auctioneer.

I wonder if there is an interesting story behind this?

gerry111 7th Aug 2020 06:26

I'd be guessing it's not quite as exciting as TSI.
The auctioneer's "Acting under instructions from Airport Management to satisfy a Court Order". So perhaps something as boring as unpaid YPPF parking bills?

Probably so. Just wondering though.

Kagamuga 7th Aug 2020 09:42

FlightAware suggests the aircraft has not flown in 4 years, or at least filed a flight plan
The ownership name appears to be defunct. "OO Htun Htun" registered in Victoria

Hans Solo 7th Aug 2020 20:55

That old girl still around?
Wasn't an A model...was a 402 "nothing"...before the A model..had the short nose....built in the mid 60s, if I remember correctly.
Use to flog around in it 30 years ago and it was ancient back then.

i'd say so. If I recall the story was some Dr. bought it using superannuation funds as an "investment" (not sure how he thought that was ever going to be a good idea) - without having the first clue about aircraft.
Once pandoras box had been opened and he realized how much more money was going to be needed to get it to a point where you could actually use it for commercial charter the whole plan fell apart. AFAIK it's sat there from 2016.

tail wheel 8th Aug 2020 00:42

Bidding will start around four cents per kilo. :}

gerry111 8th Aug 2020 08:08

Kearns Auctions and Valuations have just emailed me: "It was a no reserve auction as advertised. Yes it was sold."

No sale price was disclosed. Did anyone attend?

uncle8 8th Aug 2020 08:42

Auction site shows $27250.

I have ( or was ) in Aviation nearly 40 years. Have flown lots of Cessna twins. I never knew there was a short nose 402!!

By George 8th Aug 2020 12:31

There was even a C401. I flew one, VH-KRY in the early seventies. I cannot remember the difference with the C402, not much I think.

Petropavlovsk 8th Aug 2020 12:54

Indeed correct, VH-KRY was a crappy C401 with a short nose, the owner Bill Suhr of KRY later died in VH-RED a short nose C402 in about 1986.
Bill was an exponent of very reduced power takeoff's; thought he was saving engines...

Reduced power takeoffs were not the end of it with Bill. Sadly 3 others also perished in VH RED

Sorry, make that 5 others who perished in VH-RED

Hasherucf 12th Aug 2020 05:23

Does it carry 500kg... Only doing one trip ;)

desertduck 13th Aug 2020 02:53

VH CJA was also a C402 nothing. (S/N 00078)

Capt Fathom 13th Aug 2020 03:19

VH-CJA was seen all over Australia doing aerial photography with QASCO.

navajoe 13th Aug 2020 22:02

Used to fly an old C411 VH-CLC, which I think was a short nose 402 with the geared props a la 421. It was that old it had a ADF that you tuned with a little crank wheel like you were winding up a window. good old days.

Defenestrator 13th Aug 2020 22:10

RDZ (the original one) and BPX were sister ships with consecutive serial numbers off the production line if memory serves me correctly. I believe the original RDZ now resides in the graveyard at Charters Towers airport somewhere nearby Dennis Behan’s hangerage. Both were C402 ‘straight’ models. Air Mt Isa operated both for many years.

ELZ was another 402 (not A) that was ex RFDS that went for a slide down the runway at ADL in a shower of sparks 17 odd years ago

Did someone forget to dangle the dunlops?!

DF.

Arnold E 15th Aug 2020 00:01

Bit of a story involved in that DF but it was precipitated by an electrical failure.

She's back! Pickles have VH-RDZ listed for auction, again...

Photos don't look too much different from when Kearns had her up for auction a couple years ago, so yet another failed project??
