Bob Tait Air Law Extract + CAO 20-95.2
 

I've started studying for my air law exam and have been getting pdfs of all the docs (AIP book, CASR, CAR CAOs) so I can go el cheapo and print them at Officeworks. I've noticed on Bob Tait's site there is a CPL air law extract that has been approved for use in the exam. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using this in the test and if they felt it was lacking certain aspects that were needed.

Aside from that, I've been struggling to find a combined document for CAO 20-95.2 on the Federal Register of Legislation. I was going to just print out whatever shows up while searching but it appears you can only search individual parts (e.g 20.1, 20.13 etc), and seeing as they are not displayed in the correct order I am concerned I may miss an important section. I was wondering if anyone knew of a more efficient way to get a hold of the CAOs.

The least inefficient way would be to print them from your EFB. Grab a rainforest of paper for your printer, though.

There is no authoritative ‘combined’ file in existence with all of the CAOs, so far as I am aware. That’s probably because changes are frequently made to individual CAOs. Therefore you should note that your printed collection will be probably be out of date the minute after you’ve printed it, and certainly out of date within a few weeks or so.

Or you could wait until 1998, because that’s when the new, simple, outcomes-based harmonised regulations will be completed and supersede all the CAOs.

Since no one has given you a straight answer, I used the Bob Tait extracts in Melbourne. ASPEQ had absolutely no problems with it, as long as there are no loose pieces of paper within. In my opinion the Extracts were absolutely sufficient for the exam but that depends person to person. Some people do carry all the all documents along with the extract just in case but I did not do so and passed easily.

I printed all my CASR and CAR documents for CPL and ATPLs, but honestly - just buy the CAOs.

Its around $80 and makes it significantly easier to navigate, and you won’t risk missing anything.

Just wanted to follow up in case anyone else has the same question later on down the line. I sat the air law exam today just using the Bob Tait extract and it covered all the CAR, CAO and CASR questions I had. ASPEQ had no issues with me using them either.

Yeah I did pass. In saying that I did get a subscription to pilot practice exams which I think helped a fair bit in terms of getting used to the wording style used in the exam.
